How Close Is He? Story 1 of 6

imagesCAVVCC2QAs I sit at my desk tonight I smile at the silenceโ€ฆsweet, sweet, silence.ย  No television blares with conversations and commercials that seek to invade my thoughts.ย  No radio sings tunes that long to coax or distract me to listen to the story that they want to tell.ย  No phone rings to alert me to messages, or texts, or calls. Nope. There is just silenceโ€ฆsweet, sweet, silence.

Now to a lot of people silence might be a scary or even a lonely place to be.ย  And in all honesty it can be those things.ย  I have been thereโ€ฆfelt that.ย  Have you?ย  I found that to be the case when we have no peace in Christ.ย  Or, if we have hidden something in our heart that keeps us bound in secrets โ€“ where there can be condemnation, fear or shame.ย  But listen to me – silence was not created to be silent!ย  Truly!ย  In the beginning when God created the world His Spirit was gently hovering over the face of the deep.ย  It was a holy place where thoughts had the power to come alive.ย  It was a place where the thoughts of God spoke life into the silence and the world heard and was.ย  And the truth is that He still speaks!

I remember well when I received this epiphanyโ€ฆthis revelation to hear Him in my spirit through worship, through meditation, through writing, through study and though listening. ย Do you hear what I am saying?ย  The silence ISNโ€™T silent!ย  And this, my friends is where I will begin Up Close & Personal tonight.ย  I will share with you what it has been like to embrace a relationship with the Holy One of Israel in ways that I never knew I could.

I am so excited!!!ย  He has been so many things to me…so many.ย  I know that many of you may have heard of the various names of God that get referenced in teaching, preaching or prayer.ย  Personally, I began to make a list of them as He revealed Himself to me one step at a time.ย  Or, should I say, one name at a time. It has truly been an intimate conversation between He and I.

In 2001, I began to learn how to access the Spirit of Godโ€ฆHis Holy Spirit.ย  Now before then I knew the Word of God, I was baptized, I knew church, I knew rules for Godly-living, I knew service, I knew bible study, I knew fellowship with the body of Christ, I understood the call to prayerโ€ฆand I knew Jesus as the โ€œKing and bossโ€ of all the world.ย  I saw miracles in my life, I saw discernment rise up, I felt Godโ€™s creative call on my life and I truly yielded to the call to serve and know more and more about Him.ย  I ached for a pure and a holy spirit within me.ย  However, I knew that I still had a long, long way to goโ€ฆespecially when I left my second husband and got another divorce 10 years ago.

Looking back, I have learned that I have stuff.ย  You have stuff.ย  We all have stuff.ย  We will have stuff.ย  It isnโ€™t about our stuff.ย  The power is in learning that it is simply and powerfullyโ€ฆabout Him.ย  It isnโ€™t like we can hide anything from Him anyway.ย  Like He doesnโ€™t know?

As my hunger to know Him became greater than my fear of retribution for my failures, I began to seek Him in new waysโ€ฆto KNOW Him.ย  Even if I stumbled as I learned, I got back up, trusted Him more and continued to open myself to Him entirely. My body, soul and spirit were His as I studied and learned to add vows, fasting, and sanctification for increased focus on Him. ย As I surrendered my life to Him spiritually He revealed and opened Himself spiritually to me.

I began to learn that He enjoys that I come to Him just like I am because I lay it all on the altar.ย  Have you ever done that?ย  I mean, really?ย  I remember many nights pushing everything off my large coffee table and laying across it as a sacrifice – giving Him everything about me as I cried out to Him.ย  I didnโ€™t keep anything from Him.ย  I asked Him to fix it.ย  I learned that the secret was to give it to Himโ€ฆnot keep it from Him!ย  Whatever IT might be.

The years of Word study and memorization that was on the inside of me began to rise up as the Spirit of God in me began to grow.ย  We are body, soul, and spirit.ย  All three need food to thrive and grow for their purpose.ย  Rabboni taught me that.ย  Rabboni is the Hebrew name for Master or Teacher.ย  Jesus is my Rabboni and teaches me.ย  Really He does!

Jesus is who He says He isโ€ฆtotally.ย  He is ALIVE and not just a story.ย  His heart beats.ย  His mind thinks.ย  His ears hear.ย  His lips smile.ย  His hands touch.ย  And He desires a spiritual relationship with meโ€ฆand with you.

This first night of my sharing is so that you KNOW that.ย  My stories will mean nothing to you if you donโ€™t grasp that.ย  Even when I read the word of God, I am looking for specifics and inflections of the way He thinks and feels.ย  I want His heart to beat close to mine.ย  I donโ€™t just want a relationship with Him from afar that is only to gain from the works of His hands with blessings and miracles.ย  I want Himโ€ฆ.Up Close & Personalโ€ฆ.just as close as He will come.

I want my heart to hurt when He is rejected.ย  I want to feel His love when He receives our touch.ย  I want Him to share with me blessings or heartaches from His glorious life and being.ย  I want to have eyes to see and ears to hear Him.ย  If He whispers my name or has to raise His voice if I am stubbornโ€ฆ.I want all of Him.

I see Him clearly in my spiritual eyes.ย  I feel Him deeply in my spiritual body.ย  He is ALIVE for me and in me.ย  I so want Him to be ALIVE for and in you.

If my stories will encourage or inspire you to BELIEVE that there is more of Him aching for you…then your relationship with Him is about to change.ย  None of us have seen anything yet.ย  Of that I am certain.

And the story continuesโ€ฆ

Ride that roller coaster…

328973947750161221_MtGiV68T_b

Does everyone love experiencing even the smallest carnival? You know, the Tilt-a-Whirl – the Ferris Wheel and the Roller Coaster?ย  How about the Zipper, the Gravity Twirl or even the Swings?ย  What about the House of Horror or the House of Mirrors?ย  And I know you can never forget the classic, the Carousel!ย  And then, once all that riding makes you hungryโ€ฆyou spend a fortune on cotton candy, candy apples, corn dogs, burgers, and shrimp on a stick.ย  After that donโ€™t you usually stroll by the games of chanceโ€ฆintriguedโ€ฆbut dodging the scary carnival workers calling out to you?

When I was a kid going to the carnival was a magical experience โ€“ with all sorts of feelings thrown in.ย  Maybe even getting sick after a twirling ride lol?ย  Well, I think for fun I will just compare living Life After Divorce in some ways like a carnival. In our daily lives as singles, donโ€™t we have ups and downs, spinning and flying, the exciting and the scary, the gentle and the rough, times of both risk and comfort, as well as the cost of forking out the money all by ourselves to pay for it all?ย  Sure we do!

I think at this point I guess I just want to encourage you to throw out your arms and experience YOUR life after divorce โ€“ just like riding a roller coasterโ€ฆwith all your emotions and feelings harnessed to not interfere with your determination to go the distance. Some rides will be good and some will beโ€ฆnot so good.ย  But it is YOUR life my single brothers and sisters and I promise you, God has special plans for you through the whole journey.ย  Donโ€™t miss the good because of your past.ย  Donโ€™t miss the good because of the high costs youโ€™ve paid.ย  Donโ€™t miss the good because you are lonely.ย  Donโ€™t miss the good by being blinded by what you lost.ย  Donโ€™t miss the good because you are too busy working hard to be who you USED TO BE.ย  Get on a new ride and take the good in each day NOW.ย  Please my friend, GO FOR IT!!!

Glory Hallelujah!ย  It excites me!ย  I could just do a cheerleader jump for joy!ย  Wellโ€ฆsorry, IF I could still do a cheerleader jump I would lol.ย  But for real, I am excited!ย  Believing in powerful Christ centered MISSION, PURPOSE and DESTINY for each of us; I know we can find our encouragement. Do you want to know if I have received all my dreams?ย  Nope, I havenโ€™t.ย  Have I embraced all my heartโ€™s desires? Nope.ย  Have I experienced all that I planned by this age in my life?ย  Nopeโ€ฆagain.ย  Well, you know what I say?ย  I say, โ€œSo what!โ€ย  I am 52 years old and I am NOT through living, experiencing, embracing or believing.ย  I am NOT wasting my days waiting for the rest to come!ย  I will NOT go to the carnival and just stand there watching life pass me by!

Oops, well, there are a couple of things I guess I will miss out on as the years keep ticking by.ย  Okayโ€ฆcan I get personal?ย  LOLโ€ฆremember in my first story that I shared about wanting to drive and cruise cross country on a Harleyโ€ฆfree and exploring with my long hair, red lipstick and big loop earrings?ย  I know that probably surprised MANY of you.ย  Remember the Knight Warrior that I believe to come and sweep me off my feet and gallop off with me on his horse?ย  Woo hoo, what a man! Well, there is one other itty bitty little detail that my Christian friends, after their shock, used to get such a kick out ofโ€ฆ.I want my man to have long hair and an earring!ย  Stop laughing!ย  For real I did!ย  Man, oh man, that was just flat out romantic to me lol.ย  I am a Christian gypsy at heart โ€“ I know it – I have to be!ย  But hey, I am a good sport!ย  Maybe he can break out the wig during a candle light supper!ย  Sorryโ€ฆjust picking! ย I probably have enough hair for both of us!

The other thing wasโ€ฆI love to dress up too.ย  I love to wear all sorts of sparkly clothes, jewels and high heeled boots!ย  For real, I remember telling my Aunt that I sure was hoping MY MAN didnโ€™t wait to come till I was on a walkerโ€ฆI want to be romanced in my boots!ย  You know, whatever makes you feel spunky lol. ย Tennis shoes just donโ€™t make me feel romanticโ€ฆbut if my Soul Mate doesnโ€™t hurry, it may be Dr. Scholls! ย Just kiddinโ€ฆsort of!

Soooooo wow, now that I have shared all my secrets, can I just jump right on in the next issue at hand?ย  Do you want to know what my thoughts are right now?ย  RELATIONSHIPS. Yep, thatโ€™s it.ย  As a single I figured that was a pretty important issue to study, learn and plan for.ย  I have learned a lot on the back side of my two marriages and with dating โ€“ namely, that a committed relationship must have one real indicator of love that speaks truth to ME.

People say the word LOVE really easy and I have been through some really painful relationships.ย  With Godly-wisdom I pray that I have finally located the key factor to me for my future marriage relationship.ย  Do they want whatโ€™s best for me?ย  That is the simple question and filter with prayer that will determine that love commitment for me.

People say a lot of things that sound good.ย  Important people in your life say a lot of things that seem good.ย ย  But what MUST BE in my healthy relationship is that their life will reveal that they want whatโ€™s best for me. ย Thatโ€™s their job, to want whatโ€™s best for me MORE than whatโ€™s best for them.ย  I donโ€™t want imitation love that focuses only to meet their needs.ย  And with all my heart, I want my life to mirror exactly the same for themโ€ฆ.that I want whatโ€™s best for them. ย Therefore, neither heart is focused on itself.ย  I will be watching for those truths because a God-covenant must be stepped into with truth and without deception.ย  And thatโ€™s that.

As for me today as a single living Life After Divorceโ€ฆ.

I am happyโ€ฆtruly.ย  I have peace in my heart and in my home.ย  That is priceless to me.ย  Jesus is not distant to me nor a fairy tale.ย  He is my King of Kings and I am surrendered to Him.ย  Therein is my peace and I will guard it always.

Just recently I began a new career on a law enforcement team as an officer supporting and equipping officers to serve and protect each of you.ย  That is worthy and honorable.ย  I praise God for using the gifts that He has given me to cover the government that He has put in place.

My time off is impressive and I am grateful to continue to love and be used to bless my family and friends.ย  Loving them is the desire of my heart.ย  I want to do what is best for them also!

As for writing, my God-gift of writing and telling stories….inspirational storiesโ€ฆto touch, inspire and encourage you will continue to go forth.ย  My terrific work schedule will provide the time off.ย  Jesus will provide the stories and the way!ย  I pray to publish a teaching devotional within a year.ย  And more after thatโ€ฆ

And hmmmmmโ€ฆ.romanceโ€ฆwell, there isnโ€™t so much happening in that area right now.ย  But no matter, for the first time in my life, I know that I am truly โ€œcompleteโ€ and ready to be Godโ€™s best for someone.ย  If they tarry, well, they might not find me in high heel boots lol.

So there it is. My divorce story is shared.ย  The truth is that Life After Divorce has all the opportunities in the world to be as good as you are open for it to be.ย  Open my friends, we must open wide!ย  Ride that roller coaster with hands held high, brave and adventurous – for we truly havenโ€™t seen anything yet!

Thank you for sharing this story with me.

My next personal blog will be in Juneโ€ฆbe blessed!

Single struggles…

Awesome! I think it surprised many people when they found out that I even knew how to shoot a 38 special โ€“ much less have one at my house. Many people had only seen me as church staff or a prayer counselor at church functions, lol, so it shocked them when I completed the Sheriffโ€™s Department womenโ€™s self defense class and shooting range lesson a few years ago and I was one of the ladies interviewed by KPLC for the nightly news.ย  It was great!ย  As far as my shooting score, I had 5 shotsโ€ฆalmost all in the same hole.ย  I loved it!ย  The class was held on a Saturday so the news ran that night.ย  At church the next morning, I had a lot of surprised church family!

Most of the congregation in general didnโ€™t really know the country girl side of me.ย  I grew up with family that hunted and fished and I was certainly taught how to clean fish and shoot.ย  My parents used to take us camping and on adventures.ย  So while I do love to dress up, I just as much love to roam around barefoot with no makeup, exploring nature or chillin.ย  But now, letโ€™s get back to my timeframeโ€ฆ

I turned 50 in 2008 and began to feel it.ย  I was slimmer then because over the next couple of years I not only worked long hours for ministry, I tended to my new home, and all my own yard work โ€“ which WAS substantial! I wasnโ€™t really concerned about dating anyone. I was still putting the recent โ€œonline long distanceโ€ dating relationship behind me.ย  It had been way too much work making something out of nothing just because I was lonely.

Financially, I was pretty strapped once I stepped into life as a new homeowner.ย  I made a great income, but it was my first time to buy a house on my ownโ€ฆand a 3 bedroom 86 years old cottage home was a lot of work and expense.ย  Utilities were high and I sweated a lot working in my yard.ย  And thatโ€™s NO lie.ย  Thank you, Jesus that I did a good job of remodeling, maintaining the house and ALL the yard work.ย  I wanted it to look good and stay in shape.ย  I faithfully believed in His Word, โ€œโ€ฆbe faithful over a few things and He will make you ruler over much.โ€

In fact, that very thing came into play much sooner than I imagined.ย  In November 2009, my work load at church maxed out and I began to see the pressure would never get any better in my position.ย  So, 4 months later, thank you, Jesus, I sold my home so that I was free financially to make new decisions for my future.ย  It was God-favor that I was able to sell it with a profit after less than 3 years of owning it.ย  Amen to that!ย  After I sold it I moved to an apartment in my old home town to be closer to my son and his familyโ€ฆas they had a new baby girl that would be born in June 2010. Needless to say, June 11, is a day in all our hearts and there is no need to PROMISE you that I was and still am proud to call myself โ€œMaw Mawโ€!

So just last year my granddaughter was born and I turned 52 years old.ย  I was aggressively pursuing new life – and was ready for even more changes in my life.ย  I now had less work to tend to at home since I was happily no longer a homeowner.ย  That meant everything! ย I was able to relax more at home, and enjoy time with family and friends and had more flexibility in my finances.ย  Then I began delegating more work at the church to others and started looking for another career.ย  At the same time I was also interested in opening myself up to some male friend companionship and conversation.

Again, I knew of nowhere to meet Christian singles outside of church.ย  And yet I didnโ€™t know of any single guys in church in the personal relationship category.ย  My focus at church had to be work.ย  I didnโ€™t have time for fellowship when I was working.ย  There was no longer a singles ministry at church since I stepped down from leading and really, I had no idea where to go as a single Christian interested in socializing, fellowship and/or dating.

Even when I was a singles leader, I contemplated why the majority of Christian singles werenโ€™t interested in connecting at church with singles age 35 and up.ย  I know that churches are FILLED perhaps with even as much as 50% of singles.

Finally, I began to believe that in a decade of technology, perhaps personal face-to-face connections and socializing have been usurped by online dating sights, email, texting, social networks like FaceBook or even web in general โ€“ UNLESS some Christians in loneliness, sadly, try the bar scene as I did years ago.

I am not saying technology as a connection avenue is a sin for Christians โ€“ truly I am not. Technology is certainly a blessing for Christians as well as for the secular world โ€“ if used with integrity and character.ย  I am just saying that I think that maybe more mature singles are now able to meet their socializing and connection needs in this superficial and perhaps temporary manner.ย  If so, then they may feel there may be less and less need to step out in the traditional manner of congregating in a group of singles; if you can shop online so-to-speak, why go to the store?ย  Honestly, I think that may be the case.ย  It is scary what the long range result of that will be if it is true.

Maybe I will address that question another time.ย  But tonight, well, I guess I will share that again I turned to the Christian online dating site for Christian male conversation and connection.ย  My boundary and intent was firmly acknowledged to myself and with God.ย  My focus was as Friends ONLY for an extended timeโ€ฆcommunication with only local Christian men that I talk to via phone and emails for 2 weeks FIRSTโ€ฆthen meeting themโ€ฆ.then possibly companionship after that.ย  I limited my evenings of online connection to an hour.ย  No more would it take over my life.ย  I had no intention of repeating my past disaster.

Within a short time I was connecting with two local Christian men.ย  Their communication and profiles seemed sincere.ย  After a couple of weeks we met in public places and visited.ย  One guy was a nice Christian man and we went out a few times. I was not interested in romance anytime soon and he was.ย  I realized that the โ€œFriendshipโ€ planโ€ฆwasnโ€™t a good one.ย  It was stressful for me and I felt like I was taking advantage of a nice guy.ย  I didnโ€™t believe that friendships were supposed to be stressfulโ€ฆso this WASNโ€™T working with the friendship strategy.ย  I know if I would have really been drawn to learn more about himโ€ฆI would have continued the relationship.ย  I just didnโ€™t feel led to do so.ย  As for the other guy, nope, absolutely no connection there. After that, it just took more energy than I wanted to give it and I deleted and closed out my online dating account.ย  However, I was happy to learn that through the years of continual growth that I was much wiser and stronger.ย  Go God!ย  Nothing was wrong, I just didnโ€™t want to be on a merry-go-round of repetitive processes.

But yโ€™allโ€ฆfor realโ€ฆ.I had more fun with the online exploring and connecting part!ย  Which lol, leads me to share a brief โ€œAdโ€ I wrote as a class assignment at McNeese just a couple of months ago. I hope you will get a kick out of itโ€ฆ

Love Ad

ย Loveโ€ฆgoing once, going twice, sold for the budget rate of $19.95 per month, or for the special rate of $49.95 for 3 months, or even at the bargain rate of $89.95 for the whole year.ย  Love, available at the price I can afford!ย  Soโ€ฆI clicked YES on the amazingly tempting love offer. Yes, I did.ย  Me, an intelligent, mature, single, Christian adult said yes to the gimmick.ย  I of course knew that it wasnโ€™t real and the percentage of real relationships that survive the budget time period is probably .0005 percent.ย  But like Cinderella, I might be that percent!ย  Prince Charming could be smiling sweetly at my picture and clicking yes on his Dell laptop in an airport in a city 3,000 miles away.ย ย  So, I eagerly filled out all my personal preferencesโ€ฆgot my personal catalog ad so-to-speak ready to go, wasted hours on creating my โ€œimageโ€.ย  I downloaded pictures that hid every non perfect aspect of my person and if none could be found, I took an eyeball level shot of my face on my phone and froze it into an eternal poseโ€ฆa pose that I would never have posed in real life!ย  Did I say that I was intelligent? Then I spent the next month or so wasting valuable real relationship and personal time on repeating the same personal introduction over and over to each different connection request.ย  I even went so far as to go on several dates โ€“ public, perfectly respectful ones โ€“ or should I say, โ€œPerfectly respectful empty ones.โ€ย  Friendship and Romance were no where to be found.ย  I even preferred the online imagined guys to the actual date guys when I actually met them.ย  Whatโ€™s up with that???ย  So, as my budget Love relationship time period came to a close, I cheerfully erased all my profile, pictures and communications and ceased the real relationship I had spent so much time withโ€ฆ.my laptop.

Life After Divorce โ€“ single struggles

Online dating…really

I love it!ย  Looking across my desk on the other side of the room are 3 pictures from days of old with Knights, Kings and Queens holding court, and princesses watching Warriors ride off into battle with all authority and honor.ย  For real my friends, that is what we MUST live spiritually for victoryโ€ฆauthority!ย  Remember me telling you of my Knight statue that I carried home in my car?ย ย  He was a reflection to me of the spiritual authority that Jesus released to me, first because I believed Him to HAVE all authority for what happens on Heaven and Earth, and secondly because I experienced firsthand victories as He trained me with His Spirit to win wars and battles in MY life in areas the devil had previously claimed.ย  We took my landโ€ฆmy life back so-to-speak!

Isnโ€™t that what happens when wars are won?ย  Winners mark their territory as the land is claimed for the victor!ย  The people are claimed, renamed and redefined who live under their rule.ย  In days of old, everyone in the land stepped under the authority of the new owner.ย  Now THATโ€™s what Iโ€™m talking about!

Donโ€™t competition winners in our day today get trophies, medals, and awards?ย  Why?ย  Why do they get something in their hand?ย  It is so they will remember not just the victoryโ€ฆbut the battle and the strategy that got them thereโ€ฆso they never forget HOW to win!ย  It is so they remember forever their claim of authority over that territory.ย  It is so they can teach others how to go out and win for themselvesโ€ฆand remove the enemy from the territories in their lives.

I remember well the battles and victories in my Christian lifeโ€ฆmy healing, my deliverance, and my freedom.ย  I can assure you that I have a โ€œspiritualโ€ weaponโ€™s trophy locker that I can open and pull from anytime I need too.ย  They are powerful truths and they are always accessible when battles rise up.ย  But what I MUST say now is to REMEMBER to access it!ย  A weapon of war is only good in the hand of the warriorโ€ฆnot forgotten on a shelf. ย And a warrior must ALWAYS know his strong points and weak areas.ย  I promise youโ€ฆthe enemy knows!ย  If you leave yourself vulnerableโ€ฆthe enemy is coming.ย  He just needs a second to slip in an unguarded area.

And here my friend is where I start my story tonight.

It wasnโ€™t that I didnโ€™t have a fabulous passionate relationship with Jesus Christโ€ฆreal and vibrant and powerful.ย  It wasnโ€™t that I didnโ€™t know He adored me and wooed me at all times.ย  I saw His hand of favor on me.ย  I felt His wind of love around me.ย  It wasnโ€™t that at all.ย  But for some reason in this season, I let a lonely desire for a MAN to love me sneak out of my past into my life.

Just a little less than four years ago I decided I would help God open the door to romance so I could find my soul mate.ย  And no, I didnโ€™t ask God about it.ย  I just assumed He wouldnโ€™t mind, which makes no sense whatsoever.ย  But the truth is that I was tired of waiting and wanted someone in my lifeโ€ฆmy new home was so empty with just me.ย  I wanted THE manโ€ฆto call and say, โ€œGood morningโ€โ€ฆor us meet for coffeeโ€ฆor meet and cook dinner or watch a movie.ย  I wanted us to dance to love songs and walk along the water.ย  I wanted our eyes to meet and talk without saying a single word at all.ย  Truly I wanted a Knight that was all things in all waysโ€ฆfilled with the Holy Ghost, afraid of nothing and protecting me from everything.ย  I wanted to be Godโ€™s best for him and him to be Godโ€™s best for me.ย  My heartโ€™s desire seemed harmless.

I thought it would be safe enough to go onlineโ€ฆgiving no one access to me till I choseโ€ฆgetting to connect and know people and learn to trust themโ€ฆshareโ€ฆ.listenโ€ฆdreamโ€ฆand then enjoy the anticipation of meeting and watching love explode.

I thought that filling out the Christian online personality profile was fun – setting up my pictures โ€“ and going through all the menโ€™s profiles discovering who all was doing the same thing I was doing.

For the first three months I just played with connecting in online chat rooms, seeing what it was all about, and just learning what singles around the country were saying and thinking.ย  It seemed like lonely singles just looking for someone to reach out toโ€ฆthinking someone out there might be THE ONE.ย  After all, that was what I was doing.

Then I began to focus on a few guys that seemed to have the most integrity and seemed interesting and we began to visit away from the chat roomsโ€ฆ.on the phone, text, and email.ย  It was all pretty fun, very time consuming and addictive…my friends and family picked at me a good bit.ย  Two of my close confidants were not happy about itโ€ฆbut I was on a rollโ€ฆenjoying being a woman and excited about what was around the corner.ย  Feeling safe that it was a Christian dating service, I felt like my bases were covered.ย  Finally it was time to meet one that lived a few towns away.

We met in a public place and I couldnโ€™t have been more surprised that he was nothing like I perceived from our communications.ย  He was a very sweet guy, but not THE ONE nor would he ever beโ€ฆ.it was painful to begin a relationship with someone and then just let it disappear.ย  When you visit for a long time before you ever meet, you share things about each other.ย  It IS personal and you canโ€™t help but have expectations for the future.ย  And hurting someone is always personal.ย  I was not proud of myself.

Hoping to never experience that again, I kept visiting with my chat room buddies.ย  It was playful and I looked forward to it.ย  All I did was work and go home so this was an enjoyable evening event!

In just a couple of weeks, one of my chat room buddies wanted to come and meet me.ย  He lived a couple of states over and I couldnโ€™t imagine him driving all the way over!ย  We kept visiting and I said sure, that would be fine to meet.ย  I was pretty nervous about it especially in lieu of the guy I had just recently hurt.

It isnโ€™t like I was some wild daterโ€ฆI hadnโ€™t even kissed a man since I had left my husband five years before.ย  I lived a very protected life and this was something totally new to me. Living Godly wasnโ€™t just something I said.

Well, I took a day off work and we arranged to meet when he got into town.ย  It was all pretty exciting.ย  We met in a public place and had a good time.ย  There was a lot of things I liked about himโ€ฆand some I didnโ€™t.ย  We enjoyed our time together and decided to see if a relationship would develop.

It did develop.ย  Too fast.ย  He would drive in ever few weeks and I would go stay at my sisterโ€™s house and he would stay at mine.ย  But it began to consume my life.ย  I already worked many, many hours and I was trying to juggle his trips into town on top of it.ย  We texted on the phone half the night and talked on the phone for hours.ย  My loss of sleep was tremendous.ย  My work load was still tremendous.ย  My family and friends complained about me staying occupied with him for hours each day even when he wasnโ€™t in town.ย  It was a very hard relationship to make workable.

It continued for a couple of months and I was exhausted.ย  Isnโ€™t it amazing how hard we work to make something out of nothing?ย  After a good argument it ended.ย  We tried to keep in touch for awhile but I had โ€œred flagsโ€ everywhere in the relationship.ย  It was over.

And I got sleep again thank you God!

I learned a lot of things in seeking and dating Christian single men from online.ย  You just canโ€™t know someone based on email, text, chat rooms or telephone.ย  Face to face in the long run is the only true communication to meet and get to know someone.ย  The other stuffโ€ฆwell it should be only to keep in touchโ€ฆnot the main means to learn each other.ย  And even then, if they donโ€™t live local to where you see their life and their faithโ€ฆthey can create an identity of any kind.ย  That is scary.

I know God protected me during that season of โ€ฆdoing what I wanted to do.ย  Jesus take stubbornness from me Lord!ย  I thank Him that the two guys were gentle men and that my lessons didnโ€™t leave me damagedโ€ฆbut wiser.

Speaking of wiser, my next journey was in getting a 38 special from my son and taking self defense classes at the shooting range.ย  Have I mentioned that I am a good shot, lol?

God keeps us…truly!ย  And my story continuesโ€ฆsee you tomorrow night.

The Carousel…

193021534001025126_3J9dkCa4_bIt was hard to believe that it happened to me again! Almost 14 years after my second marriage I had found myself in exactly the same positionโ€ฆon the other side of divorce.ย  It seemed almost like the whirling of a carousel, literally, as my life rotated round โ€“n-round until it stopped and I stepped off into the same mindset placeโ€ฆ.at 43 years old instead of 26.

I can still remember the epiphany moment when I finally realized the โ€œRepeatโ€ I had just experienced.ย  It wasnโ€™t until that epiphany that I KNEW beyond a shadow of a doubt that unresolved issues controlled my decisions and mindsets about some very deep beliefs in meโ€ฆeven though I was saved and a Christian now.

Now, I know that I have shared snippets of some of my thoughts and experiences on making the decision for this divorce based on triggers of fear from my childhood.ย  But tonight, well, my focus tonight is on the single perspective from this last ten years that I have been โ€œsingle againโ€ for the second time after the choice was made.

I think the scariest thing about the new โ€œsingle againโ€ for me was the fact that I was a Christian when it happened.ย  I somehow believed that I COULDNโ€™T make the same decisions, mistakes and choices that I used to as an unbeliever.ย  I was so scared and truly sought God and received forgiveness for breaking my marriage covenant.ย  And no matter the reason โ€“ even safety โ€“ I truly believe that breaking a covenant with God is sin.ย  But I am not one to wallow in condemnation, thank you Jesus!ย  After asking forgiveness and RECEIVING IT, I grieved the death of our marriage, accepted my new life, and moved onโ€ฆfocused on God and family!ย  It is NOT like I was going to go the bar scene this time around.ย  As far as I was concerned, that person, like Elvis lol, had left the building.

I can assure you, men in my future were the last thing on my mind!ย  I had no thought, desire, plan, or purpose to date, much less marry again!ย  (So sorry for the prejudice!ย  God took care of that later!ย  See my previous stories.)ย  I loved my new single season free from oppression.ย  I began to focus on getting healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually.ย  The โ€œouchโ€ truth was that I had spent a lot of years not feeling loved at all, so in all honesty I literally had to restrain myself from slapping those well meaning souls when they asked me when I was going to find a new man.ย  My heart would scream, โ€œNEVERโ€!ย  My face just played it off.

As you know by my testimony, my life was a healing whirlwind during this time โ€“ and I had a great time single.ย  I began getting involved in the single ministry at church and we had lots of fellowship, activities and stayed occupied, serving and busy.ย  Especially once I began to work at the church!

It was totally important to me to keep myself โ€ฆHolyโ€ฆbody, soul and spirit.ย  The married men I worked and served with at churchย  have no idea how they blessed my life.ย  I hadnโ€™t had many relationships with Godly menโ€ฆ.well, and those men showed me what Godly men were.ย  I would watch them love, serve and protect the body of Christ and I began to learn what qualities I desired one day to find in a man.ย  I thanked God many times for putting me in a safe place to grow and increase as a woman of godโ€ฆSAFELY.

I bloomed and in me was released a deep passion for God, worship, and creativity.ย  I guess I was just like a greenhouse flowerโ€ฆprotected from outside influences and growth was guaranteed!

A single guy I knew at church in time became really friendlyโ€ฆinterestedโ€ฆI would get lots of comments from those that noticed, but I just wasnโ€™t ready for my passion and zest for life to be shared in a romantic relationship.ย  I still kept my walls up against that.ย  I kind of picture it like a castleโ€ฆthe drawbridge was up and no one was getting past the gate.ย  For real!ย  Speaking of castleโ€ฆ

At this stage of my spiritual journey I began to collect pictures of castles, study about warriors and even, yes even, bought a 6-foot metal knight in armor.ย  Oh my gosh, I loved the representation of that!ย  I found him at a second hand office furniture store in Westlake โ€“ and barely got him in my car.ย  It was so funny to watch the vehicles pass me by on the I10 bridge and do a double take at the โ€œKnightโ€ filling my car!

But back to being singleโ€ฆI think I believed that because I worked at church 7 days a week, that one day MY knight would just walk into my office and whisk me away on his white stallion. Donโ€™t YOU laugh!ย  For real, I was rarely anywhere else, so that seemed the logical plan to me!

And then one day, a visiting minister at church began to flirtโ€ฆand I had a great time with it and began to realize I was getting ready to think about a relationship.ย  While that minister was only an eye opener, so-to-speak and not a relationship, I began to be aware of a change taking place in my heart on the issue of romance in general.

But then I began to wonder where all the single Christian men were!ย  I didnโ€™t see many of them at the singleโ€™s ministry events that I was now Leader for.ย  If fact, there were few single Christian women that would step out and come to singleโ€™s events.ย  I knew that there werenโ€™t many places for Christian singles to fellowship.ย  Bars were out of the question in ministry circles and it seemed as if most single and divorced people 35 and over must have found other ways to socialize or meet.

There were a few networked singleโ€™s events in the cityโ€ฆbut even those events were minimally attended.ย  So I would ask myself, โ€œWhere are the Christian singles going to meet, socialize and date?โ€ย  I tried to alter and change ministry activities to attract church singles โ€“ knowing that there were many needs not being addressed in their lives.ย  But honestly, I didnโ€™t have a lot of time to think about it since I worked almost every dayโ€ฆand when church events were going on, I was working and unable to meet and get to know other Christian singles.

And then, in the middle of all that, I bought a home and my focus was totally preoccupied for several months as I got moved out of my apartment, remodeled my new house, and got settled.ย  It was a great timeโ€ฆquite a challengeโ€ฆand a tremendous amount of work.ย  I loved my home.ย  But then one day I noticed how empty it was and for the first time in many, many years, I wanted romance, a husband and a partner at home.ย  I had been single again this time for about five years.ย  I just hadnโ€™t prepared for the waive of determination I felt towards having someone in my life romantically all of a sudden.ย  I donโ€™t know it if was the โ€œhomeโ€ factor.ย  Or the โ€œresponsibilityโ€ factor.ย  Or simply because I was โ€œlonelyโ€ right in the middle of hundreds and even thousands of people many times a week working in ministry.

And what did I do?ย  I did what many Christians do when they are trying to โ€œhelpโ€ God or make something happen when the wait gets too long.ย  I stepped up and took over.ย  Ever heard of online dating?

Oh yeahโ€ฆI am sure you have.ย  I heard and learned about it… and opened a door to a nightmare.

I felt sure I had it all under control.ย ย  Boy was I wrong.

And tomorrow night I will share about that.

Life After Divorce โ€“ The Carousel

Hindsight is 20/20…

Hindsight ISย  20/20 as I look at my past through the eyes of my knowledge nowโ€ฆ

After my first divorce I moved back home to my parents and began life as a โ€œsingle againโ€ divorced parent.ย  There just wasnโ€™t any way at all to prepare for that new life.ย  Like I shared earlier, I never dreamed that I would have one divorce much less two!ย  I just kind of drifted home and didnโ€™t much plan for my future.ย  As long as my son and I were fine, I was fine.

I didnโ€™t know that I was very naรฏve and that I had no idea what I wanted for my future as a woman, I just knew the type of life I DIDNโ€™T want.ย  That is the easiest way for me to say it.ย  I certainly wasnโ€™t in any hurry to date, or really plan anythingโ€ฆmuch less to meet someone and get married! ย God knows my loneliest days were as a wife and I was happy to be free.

However, I was totally self conscious about my value and lack of beauty being overweight.ย  I had no concept of who I was a person.ย  I knew I was a mother โ€“ which I loved!ย  I knew I was an ex-wife, a daughter, sister, friend, etc.ย  But my identity as a โ€œwomanโ€ with heart and dreams inside, I had no inkling of those inner workings whatsoever.ย  My identity was all about what I did as a โ€œcaretakerโ€.ย  THAT to me was real value.ย  Service was my real asset to me.

I had a job working as a traveling inventory auditor โ€“ and it turns out that I was very good at it.ย  I remember being very surprised that my employers kept increasing my responsibility load and that all my co-workers and new friends liked me.ย  I didnโ€™t think much of myself beyond what I could provide for others – you know – what I earned.ย  It amazed me that people wanted to be around me.

My son and I lived with my parents for several months and life to me โ€ฆ was wonderful.ย  I loved my personal freedom as an adult.ย  I didnโ€™t drink much at all, I never did drugs, and smoking was my visible addictionโ€ฆ.well, and food!

My parents finally convinced me to enroll again at McNeeseโ€ฆand I loved it!ย  My son and I moved into the family dorms by the football stadium.ย  I truly enjoyed life and was very happy.ย  It took a long time for me to even consider dating.ย  I started going out to clubs with friends every once in a while and that began to open some doors up in meโ€ฆthat could have been deadly.

I was really insecure about myself and did not believe that anyone would ever want to love me because of the betrayal I had knownโ€ฆbut I began to think about wanting to be loved.ย  I started going by myself to some clubsโ€ฆespecially when my friends werenโ€™t free.ย  I had no confidence to be assertive with men, but I just walked around watching everyone or sitting at the barโ€ฆ.not even drinking.ย  I was terrified about drinking and driving!ย  Lord knows that I should have been concerned about more than that.

I did that off and on for about six months, wanting a relationship but not really โ€œopenโ€ to communication with strangers โ€“ and I didnโ€™t know any single men.ย  I didnโ€™t know what to do.ย  Most of my school friends were married and all I saw were family and co-workers in my daily life.ย  I thought going to bars was my only avenue!ย  ย It was really a miracle that I stayed safe during that time frame.ย  I had a couple of weird encounters, but I just didnโ€™t respond and would leave and go home.ย  One time I was sitting at the bar and a guy was kind of mysterious and sat down and started visiting with me.ย  After chatting a little while, he grabbed my fingers and tried to put them in his mouth.ย  I didnโ€™t know if I wanted to laugh or slap him.ย  I thought he was one weirdo and I took off pretty quickโ€ฆafter I washed my hand!ย  How gross was that?ย  I donโ€™t even think I asked security to walk me out.ย  Thank You God for mercyโ€ฆ

I didnโ€™t really share my bar roamings with many people.ย  I was lonely but private about it.ย  And I surely didnโ€™t have a relationship with Godโ€ฆat all.

By this time I had been โ€œsingle againโ€ two years and someone encouraged me to join a single parentโ€™s club.ย  I was nervous but got a friend to go with me.ย  It was a smaller group setting with people that I had more in common with.ย  I dated a few times for awhile.ย  It was like I was โ€œ14โ€ going on 29.ย  All I had known mostly was dating my first husband through high school.ย ย  It isnโ€™t that I was shyโ€ฆI was just naรฏve and insecure, waiting to be ledโ€ฆand that certainly got me in a trouble a few times.

It didnโ€™t take long for me to find someone I was attracted to.ย  We were nothing alike and I did a lot of listening trying to find out about him.ย  He was much older than me and wanted to get serious fast.ย  In time, after my initial caution, I wanted what he seemed to represent to me to.ย  After all, I didnโ€™t know what else I wanted out of life and I was just happy he wanted me.

I wish I could say that Christian values and integrity kept me in a pure state but I would be lyingโ€ฆand I have come too far with you for that.ย  You get what you look for. ย That is pretty simple.

He and I came from totally different backgrounds and I just โ€œblendedโ€ right on into his.ย  Remember โ€“ I didnโ€™t have any identity clarification of my own.ย  I stepped into a life and relationship that I knew nothing about.

I yielded to his authority so-to-speak and even almost got myself killed because of it.ย  One night we had been at a club dancing.ย  I hadnโ€™t had anything to drink but he was drunk.ย  He had driven his truck that night.ย  When we went outside to leave, I tried to get him to let me drive but his macho personality wouldnโ€™t allow it.ย  I tried again to coax him and he would have no part of it.ย  My co-dependency and lack of boundary wooed me right on up into that vehicleโ€ฆ.well, I didnโ€™t want him to leave me did I?ย  About three miles from his house we got hit head-on because he turned into two oncoming vehicles.

You know, I am so grateful as I look back at all my lack of wisdom, that God sent His angels to protect me even when I didnโ€™t acknowledge Him.ย  It was a miracle really.ย  Our injuries were minor considering I wasnโ€™t wearing a seatbelt and hit the windshield and he wrapped himself around the steering wheel.

And still I continued on my set pathโ€ฆneeding this relationshipโ€ฆ.more than anything else.ย  I was in love and nothing anyone said would make one bit of difference to me.ย  And I made sure not to tell them of the things I KNEW already were โ€œred flagsโ€.ย  I think I even tried to hide them from myself.ย  I was determined to risk it all.ย  I craved love and nothing else mattered.

We dated a year, got in a fight, then made up and flew to Las Vegas and got married.

As I close tonightโ€™s story, I just want you to know that I donโ€™t share my life with you just to entertain you.ย  I share my life, hindsight and Christian discernment today with you in hopes that you will see any hidden lies or self deceptions in your own life โ€ฆand protect yourself from making the same mistakes that I did:

  • ย I had no personal identity of my own….I needed to blend into others.
  • I had no personal planโ€ฆ..which made me vulnerable for the plans of others.
  • I didnโ€™t get to the root of my issues with my first husbandโ€ฆ..and continued with my usual relationship behavior.
  • I put myself in harms way to meet a desire to be lovedโ€ฆat any cost.
  • I didnโ€™t know Christ as my Saviorโ€ฆ.and therefore the devil had an open door.

No matter if you are male or female, you are playing with life and heart destruction if you have no Jesus, no structure, no healing from past behaviors, or no revelation of the harm unwise decisions can cause.ย  I promise youโ€ฆ.until patterns and behaviors are exposedโ€ฆyou will keep doing what you always do.ย  Donโ€™t think the enemy doesnโ€™t know how you think.ย  So…CHANGE it!

And this, my friends, is why my story continues.ย  If even one of you, just one of you, finds true life, liberty and happiness through Jesus, then my story will have been worth it.

Speaking of continueโ€ฆtune in again tomorrow night.ย  There is more to comeโ€ฆ

Life After Divorce…The Beginning

imagesCAN2WMOKOkay, so how do you begin this type of blog?ย  Divorce is such a serious issue, full of questions, fear, wounds, hurt and anger.ย  I can remember the range of emotions that flooded me during not just one but both of my divorces.ย  So, remembering that, I will just start tonight off with something embarrassingly funny and then come back around to the point of it all afterwards.ย  Come with meโ€ฆ

________________________

To set the scene, go back with me to 2004.ย  I had been working in ministry less than 2 years, I was about 46 years old and twice divorced.ย  At that time I was probably fasting for spiritual discernment, as I did so much in those days because I was clarifying my freedom from any addictive thoughts or feelings that might try to sneak back into my life.ย  I was also in the middle of a personal vow to God not to cut my hairโ€ฆtill I felt released to do so.ย  It was just something of mine that I set aside for Him.ย  It was a great time in my life and I was madly passionate about being single, healed, delivered and set freeโ€ฆ.in Christ!

Being the only full time staff working for a growing multi-cultural, non-denominational ministry, I worked many hours to keep up with all the congregation and administration needs.ย  One of my office duties was to compile a meeting agenda for our Sunday afternoon departmental meeting that we held once a month with all pastors, leaders and myself.

Well, it was at one of these Sunday night meetings that one of the pastors began to discuss an agenda issue about a wedding that would take place at our church.ย  It was a young couple that worked in an international volunteer ministry that was based locally.ย  We were discussing what the couple might need in terms of a gift or a blessing, or just what they might need in general since they didnโ€™t have an employment position with pay or benefits.

The conversation and suggestions went round the table with 30 plus leaders making various comments.ย  I was taking meeting notes and listening to everyone else when suddenly the idea of a gift occurred to me.ย  I was sitting next to the pastor leading the discussion and said, โ€œI know what they probably needโ€!ย  She looked at me since she knew I had spent some time visiting with them on the marriage booklet.ย  I said, โ€œI know they probably canโ€™t afford wedding rings.โ€ย  Surprised, pastor said, โ€œYou want us to buy them wedding ringsโ€?ย  Totally, innocent, I said, โ€œNot at all โ€“ I would be glad to give them one of mineโ€!

Now truly, honestly โ€“ even being the leader for the singles ministry, I had no notion of how it sounded.ย  It never occurred to me.ย  But the roar of laughter and comments that followed my suggestion was loud and thoroughly filled with humor.ย  I was so embarrassed!ย  They picked at me a good long whileโ€ฆquizzing me on how many wedding rings I had laying around.ย  I tried to explain that I only had twoโ€ฆbut that didnโ€™t sound any better!ย  The story became an enjoyable tale.ย  I certainly learned to laugh with them!

_______________________

Truly, looking back on that night, it was funny but I knew that many of those sitting at the table with me didnโ€™t even have any idea of the experiences I had been through being divorced.ย  And that brings me back to today and to the point of this Life After Divorce blog.ย  This blog is ultimately about me and about you.ย  I want to clarify that it isnโ€™t about the splitting up, or the dividing up, or the giving up, or the divorce process itself. It isnโ€™t about who you were, or what you had, or what you did, or where you lived, or where you didnโ€™t live.

It is about the other side of that when you walked into the bathroom and no other toiletries were in there but yours.ย  It is about the family photo albums that you packed away in a box, and the wedding ring that you donโ€™t know what to do with, and the face of your child that looks at you reflecting the face of the one you are no longer married to.

It is about holidays that come around and you would rather burn a Christmas tree than decorate it.ย  It is about looking into your bank book that got sliced in half โ€“ and you wonder why you even have one now.ย  It is about getting into bed at night and trying to forget the flat empty space on the other side of the bed.

It is about going weeks or longer before you feel the touch of affection from another human being.ย  It is about sadness because you havenโ€™t heard the words โ€œI love youโ€ in a long, long time.ย  Or maybe itโ€™s the Valentineโ€™s Day or birthday that passes like leaves on the breeze with memories that slice like a knife.

These are just a smidgen of the experiences my friends that go on and on when you are single again.ย  Isnโ€™t that so?ย  We each have our own story and experiences. ย But I salute you my single friend!ย  I applaud you my Christian sister and brother!ย  We are the holder and keeper of opportunities.ย  You hear that?ย  Opportunitiesโ€ฆthat my friend is the point of my story in this blog!!

I promise you that the aloneness and sorrow in the paragraphs above cease to have โ€œcontrollingโ€ power over you as you ADD Christโ€™s strategies to your life โ€“ and step away from your past that mocks and reminds you of who you no longer are โ€“ and I dare you to step up and believe in who you are to become.

You CANโ€™T change what has happened and you CANโ€™T get lost in the sorrow or anger in your heart.ย  If you do, temptation can drive you to unwise decisions as you seek to fill the aching void based on your needs, fears or desires.ย  How many singles wake up after a one-night stand in someone elseโ€™s bedโ€ฆ still lonely?ย  How many jump right into any desperate relationship because you are scared to be by yourself?ย  How many fight to hide depression?ย  How many drink to forget the pain?ย  How many shop to feel better?ย  How many get high on drugs to feel like they are โ€œall thatโ€ again?ย  How many secretly dive into porno?ย  And maybe how many might think life isnโ€™t even worth living?ย  STOP!ย  THOSE are the devilโ€™s way of โ€œstealingโ€ you so that he can fill your void and take control of your life.ย  Send that lie back to the pits of hell!!!

I encourage you to stand up and say, โ€œI cancel the assignment of the enemy in Jesusโ€™ name!โ€ย  I will LIVEโ€ฆthe way I was created to live!ย  And DO it!

The Word of God tells us that as singles we are powerful and can do MORE for the Body of Christ than those that are married because we can chooseโ€ฆto give, share, and do extra for those around us.ย  Jesus was singleโ€ฆpurposely soโ€ฆand his life was perfect.ย  He was not lackingโ€ฆneither are you.ย  The world, many married couples, and sometimes even ministry leaders, look upon singles as being in a โ€œholdingโ€ stage while waiting to become โ€œwholeโ€ again once remarriage is in place.ย  Let me assure you that…

You are the receiver of God’s “CREATIVE” heart miracles.

You are not stamped โ€œBROKENโ€ because you are single.

You are โ€œPURPOSEDโ€ to impact the Body of Christ with or without a wedding ring.

You are โ€œVALUABLEโ€ to serve and ministerโ€ฆno matter what your marital status is.

You are โ€œHOLY BECAUSE HE IS HOLYโ€ and are totally equipped to stand pure as a single.

You are โ€œPOWERFULโ€ for use by the works of His hands โ€“ enjoy that you have more time to give Him.

You are โ€œLOVED and ADOREDโ€ every minute of every day because YOU are His.

You are “HEALED AND GOD’S BEST” if new love and a marriage covenant enter your life again.

A wedding ring or marriage will never identify you or I.ย  God does that!ย  The relationships we have in our lives add to our definition or identity but do NOT define us.ย  If that is the case, any loss can make you lose your way.

Now maybe you are not yet at the place of believing or living these truths.ย  So what!!!ย  You donโ€™t come to Him AFTER youโ€™re fixed.ย  You come to Him to BE fixed. Nothing about your life keeps you from His door of forgiveness and new opportunities!ย  It is always open to you. You think He doesnโ€™t know all your secrets, desires and sorrows?ย  He knows everything about youโ€ฆand His voice is always calling you to Himโ€ฆready at your surrender to cast your old life into His sea of forgetfulness so that you are free for your future .ย  I should knowโ€ฆmy life many times, especially after my first divorce, had to be cast in there…for real.

My single life after my first divorce had lots of pitfallsโ€ฆhindsight is 20/20โ€ฆbut that is a story for tomorrow night.

Going back to say thank you…

imagesCAKT1I53

I loved sharing my Story and my Testimony with all of you.ย  Looking back at the powerful way God touched my “scars, wounds, and beliefs” makes my smile…a big smile today!ย  I have a grateful heart – and I want to be like the leper that came back to Jesus in Luke 17:15 …one of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.ย  He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him…NIV.

I am not ashamed that I needed His creative touch on my life and I will throw myself at Him always.

And as I close this part of my story, from the depths of my soul I want to say thank you for my family, my absolutely wonderful son and his family: Zeb, Cora, Triston and Alayna, my honorable and blessed parents: Harold and Gerry Corbello, my special favorite brother Ricky and Ronda Corbello and daughter, my other special favorite brother Kevin and Toni Corbello and daughters and my heart and soul baby sister, Julie Giordano and children.ย  All of YOU amaze me…and humble me…YOU are God-gifts to me. ย  Oh my Jesus…how You bless me with who they are every hour of every day…such faith, love, loyalty, faithfulness, honor, character, integrity, generosity, encouragement, affection…and truly important – family humor through it all.

While this is my personal Story… it isn’t only me…I look in my spirit-filled family and know Testimonies that would truly change the world.ย  But that isn’t for me to say, THAT is their story…

Lisa Whatley, Julie, and Mom…what powerful women of God you are!ย  I will forever sing thankful blessings about you!ย  You ARE all the Proverbs 31 woman in so many ways…except add to it the discernment, power and integrity of the Holy Spirit.ย  Sincere sisters in Christ.ย  May I serve you always.

If I haven’t said your name…forgive me…I promise you that it is in my heart, in my experiences or probably referenced in one of my stories!

It is time for me to put the last “period” in the final sentence of this story andย  turn from the past and focus on my future!ย  Just like you, I am happy, I am excited and I am ready to love the world!

Glory to the King of Kings!

Future 101

Heart laid bare…

imagesCACI8KLFNothing like a whirlwind to excite things!ย  Anyway, that is what it seemed like.ย  The church went from one full time staff toโ€ฆwell, lots!ย  Then I had to begin working for Christian World on Gauthier from the still Christian World on Oak Park.ย  Needless to say, this opened a challenge for my organizational skills. Have I mentioned that I am competitive, lol?ย  Perhaps not in the traditional sweat and run and workout way, but nonetheless, I am always up for a mental competition!ย  I LOVE strategy and mysteriesโ€ฆ

Pastors brought me to the Gauthier campus one night to show me aroundโ€ฆto praise God for the WOW of this next season. ย I stood there looking across the sanctuary and in my heart knew that it had been such a blessing through the years to love and serve both of them.ย  I could remember all the trust, the training, the love, the cards, the gifts, the trip to The Potterโ€™s House, the flight to Denver, the laughter as well as the power that we saw of God in the things around us. I wasnโ€™t sure what the future would hold โ€“ but I can certainly say I trusted enough to follow God as I followed them. And let me tell youโ€ฆthe new church campus looked like a city of its own!ย  I took a quick glance at my hands and knew that God must really be planning to bless the works of my hands if I was going to be responsible for doing what I did on Oak Park here on this campus.ย  I was already putting in long but blessed work weeks โ€“ but I knew God was sure to have a plan.

After a few weeks they moved me on campus and I met the 15 or so other staff that were already there.ย  I had to learn quick, fast and in a hurry what I needed so I didn’tย  โ€œskipโ€ a beat in any areas affecting the pastors for minstry.ย  We all did.ย  There was no delayโ€ฆnot one service was missed.ย  We hit the ground running!

When I first arrived on Gauthier it didnโ€™t take me long to calculate that if I didnโ€™t get a quick organizational plan in place my personal life was over. ย For surely, with a huge congregation and large campus if everyone did their own thing in their own timeframe then the end result would be scrambling with many after hours or weekend projects. There were many, many things that I couldnโ€™t delegate and everything had just gotten much bigger.ย  I was the keeper of the โ€œknowledgeโ€ so I had to share instructions until everyone else learned it for themselves. I structured as effectively and professionally as I knew with no formal training.

I worked a couple of years after that, loving the ministry work, sincerely receiving, giving, pressing, enduring, growing, learning, and truly believing God was using it as seed for my good.ย  I stayed in the spiritual gym and pressed and pushed to serve. ย Does anyone know that ministry doesnโ€™t punch a time clock? ย I was so grateful to God for the Word that was on the inside of me.ย  For real, I was able to call up a chapter of scripture from my heart and meditate on it…oh my Jesus, I know that memorizing scripture sustained me many times.ย  I bought a home during this season, blessed truly by family, pastors and friends.ย  I also continued writing, ministering as a prayer counselor, and led as a singles leader.ย  Then I was blessed to begin to teach/facilitate the ladies bible studies at night.ย  I loved teaching from the bottom of my soulโ€ฆI loved seeing the lesson come alive in their eyes and then their hearts.ย  I loved surprising them with visual aids and testimony snippets where God had taught me.ย  I loved the passion in me to teach.

However, as staff, my supervisory duties began to seriously increase.ย  Two more ministry responsibilities were added to me as leaders stepped down from leading.ย  Then as time passed the weddings began to multiply and with that came meetings, contracts and rehearsals that I alone handled as wedding coordinator.ย  And concerts began to increase. I would take the contractโ€ฆand coordinate all accounting, volunteers, staff, and artists to make it happen.ย  Truly my responsibilities were substantial and I sought God to bless the works of my handsโ€ฆand multiply my time with wisdom.

But eventually, like everything else under heavy pressure, as the time passed byโ€ฆI began to need serious relief against the pressure. I said help as many times as I could. I remember telling someone that even an Olympic swimmer will drown if he never reaches land.ย  And tell me, what weight lifter never puts the weights down? I started feeling like a sacrifice โ€ฆa reminder from my childhood declaring that I had no value as a person.ย  I was hemmed in with church confidential information on one side – and details that no one else was responsible for on the other โ€“ which isolated me because of my position.ย  I began to resent the never ending details that everyone else mocked me forโ€ฆtill they were the ones that needed them.ย  And I dreaded concerts because it demanded tremendous thought and coordination time and I was already treading water. ย They watched me fight the load. I felt led to step down as a singles leader and as the night bible study teacher โ€“ seeking to find personal time as best I could since I had no authority to lay down administration responsibilities without permission.ย  And sometimes, well sometimes I just sorrowed that my service in ministry seemed to have less maintenance value than most people routinely performed on their vehicles.

So, I began preparing my life for a change – feeling and surely acting very much like that angry porcupine that I shared about earlier in my story. ย But I got my desk in order and waited.ย  The change did come.

But now today, peace is restored, and the beauty is that everything of value came with me.ย  Truly, especially you, if I touched your life any at all during those many years in ministry that I wasnโ€™t… just at my desk.ย  I will never forget all the food baskets I was asked to put together and bring to the hospital for families just waiting long hours, or the tears and gratefulness as I visited and anointed your loved one as they passed from this life. I remember singing over a lady in ICU that couldnโ€™t even speak.ย  I remember speaking Psalm 23 from my heart into another heart that would see Jesus just 2 days later.ย  I cried with you, held you, loved you, and served you.

I remember holding hands and hearts at the altar as we touched souls with your Healer, your Savior, your Comforter, you Redeemer, your Deliverer and well, just anything you needed Him to be.ย  I knelt over you in protection as you were slain in the spiritโ€ฆprotecting the babies that God trusted me with at His altar.

I remember the drama practices where I played Mary for Easter.ย  The Joy and passion that Christ put in us to play His story.ย  I remember the dances we danced โ€“ the twirling โ€“ the joy โ€“ the freedom on us that we prayed would be transferred to those we ministered to.

I remember the prayer service where I got healed on the spot, the worship services where we all loved on Jesus and the Word waterfalls that we all stood under so, so, so many times.

I remember the love I received and the love I gave.ย  I remember the love you received and the love you gave.ย  I remember love. ย And speaking of loveโ€ฆ

I remember when my second husband was in ICU dying with heart attack damage โ€“ sometime after our divorce – and I went to see him. ย I was still humble with Godโ€™s forgiveness in having walked away from that marriage covenant.ย  While I was spending time with him in there I asked Him about his salvation because I knew that he was afraid.ย  And there in that ICU room I knelt on the floor, praying and holding his hands – and led him to the Lord.ย  We both cried. ย He is alive to this day. The God touch isโ€ฆwhen I got back to the church office, I noticed that it was our anniversary.

I remember just a couple of years ago when my first husbandโ€™s wife was really ill and my son was concerned about it.ย  All of us Christians now, I asked my son, Zeb, to see if they would like me to come anoint and pray with her.ย  I went over there and she was in bed resting.ย  I sat on the side of their bed checking on her.ย  Then my ex husband, her husband came home and knelt on the other side of their bed.ย  I anointed her while we all prayed in the Holy Ghost in their bedroom.ย  Now tell me thatโ€™s not Godโ€™s definition of restoration.

And finally, I remember who I used to be when I walked into the church that first Easter Sunday all those years agoโ€ฆ.and I am amazed as I remember each and every detail that Jesus has changed in me as I write today.ย  I would say that compared to what the enemy had in store for me beginning when I was a little girlโ€ฆI know I got my miracle!

You see, that is what a testimony is all about, what God has done.ย  I am who I am because of what He has done.ย  My mission statement is to: Touch, Inspire and Encourage the Body of Christ.ย  I pray that my testimony has done that for you so that you can begin your journey for your new beginning just like I didโ€ฆno matter where or what you came from.

Whoaโ€ฆ.wait, speaking of beginning, I think this takes us back to the crossroads that I began with during my first story on the Harley.ย  Come onโ€ฆitโ€™s time to go backโ€ฆ

________________________

ย I step across and straddle the Harley parked right in front of the crossroad sign – popping up the kickstand all in one motion.ย  Holding my helmet and my sunglasses I looked one more time back down the road to the left – my past.ย  I wipe a tear and softly lay my hand against my heart knowing that all the valuables and treasures from my past are inside me.ย  If it isnโ€™t, I donโ€™t need it.

I look to the right โ€“ to my future.ย  I laugh and then reach across and turn the ignition key, feeling the Harley rumble to life under me.ย  I slide the helmet over my long hair, careful not to twist my big loop earrings.ย  I put on my sunglasses.ย  I turn behind me and glance down at my license plate โ€“ โ€œFUTURE 101โ€.ย  I give it a quick straighten and turn back around, humming to myself.

I put both hands on the handlebars, hit the right blinker and slowly twist the throttle – ย and roll out to begin my new journey.ย  Then I begin to talk to Jesus. โ€œJesus, whatโ€™s next up the road? ย Is my destiny to find my soul mate first and then storytelling?ย  Or, is it storytelling first and then my soul mate?ย  Tell me, please!”ย  He laughed at my prodding and just prompted me to watch the road.ย  ย โ€œWell,โ€ I said.ย  โ€œDonโ€™t make me wait pleeeeaaassee, which is it?โ€

He leaned down and whispered in my heart, โ€œItโ€™s one or the other.โ€ย  I laughed and said, โ€œYouโ€™re teasing me.โ€ย  He paused and said, โ€œOf course I am, but Patti, do you really want to know?โ€ย  โ€œPlease, Mighty Oneโ€ I said.ย  โ€œYou know I hate surprises and open all my presents before I am supposed to.โ€ย ย  He gave me a quick squeeze and said, โ€œI know, but this one is worth it.ย  Just ahead around the second curve is a road sign, it will tell you what you need to know.โ€

Cruising around the second curve I finally got close enough to read the signโ€ฆ.it said:

Storytelling Bookย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  50 miles

Soul Mateย ย ย ย ย ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  230 miles

I hit the throttle hard…and off I flewโ€ฆready for destiny!

End of this journey… for now!

Before and after the storm…

ElectricalStormThe clock was ticking and change was coming on the horizonโ€ฆbut truth to tell, change was also already happening right there and then on Oak Park Blvd!

When the congregation began to have two services I was still the only full time staff.ย  I loved working in ministry!ย  I was the first one there and many times the last one to leave.ย  It was important to me to have everything in place and ready to go when the first leader or server arrived. ย I took covering the pastors and congregation perfectly serious. ย I was flexible and had done everything from mopping after construction issues to teaching bible study. My key chain looked like a janitor ring of keys, lol. I KNEW that building even in the dark.ย  And the sanctuaryโ€ฆwell, that was home away from home.

Once two services were in place, I stepped down from dancing.ย  I have missed itโ€ฆbut knew that it was wiser to provide available time for the work increase.ย  I had already said goodbye to serving as a greeter and participating in ladiesโ€™ bible study.ย  Working for ministry is not an easy jobโ€ฆbut it is certainly a called and exciting God-experience.ย  Many times my work responsibilities were the priority to me and I just had to let go of some of the things previously in my church life.ย  I kept a firm hand on stopping work to worship and receive the Wordโ€ฆand to give just as many hugs as I could while running!

Speaking of experiences, how about I share some unusual experiences?ย  One Saturday I had went to work early to open up for a baby shower.ย  I noticed some bees around the security panel when I went to turn off the alarm.ย  Have I mentioned that I was afraid of bees?ย  I really just plain hate them, lol.ย  But anyway, Danny DeVillier showed up about that time and I said, โ€œCome see these beesโ€ฆwhatโ€™s up with that?โ€ย  He kind of followed a bee trail into the nursery and then he came back and got me.ย  He pointed up to the ceiling in the main nursery play room.ย  A million bees were on the ceiling!!!ย ย  Well, a lot anyway!ย  I was petrified.ย  Danny said, โ€œI will be right backโ€ and turned to leave.ย  I grabbed his arm and said, โ€œDonโ€™t you leave me! We have a bunch of ladies coming soon โ€“ what do I do with this?โ€ย  Heย  just laughed and we got an exterminator.ย  The bees had entered through a tiny hole in the cinder block walls.ย  Just the thought of a swarm of bees that close to me gave me the chillsโ€ฆand honey or notโ€ฆthere is nothing sweet about them!

Now in my office I had a monitor on my desk that was centrally located in the building so that I could see if someone entered the lobby.ย  One Friday afternoon, I was working and noticed a man that I didnโ€™t know enter the lobby so I got up to connect with him out in the open instead of back in the office nook.ย  We met face to face just as I reached the hall door.ย  He had a very odd look on his face and said that he was a devil worshiper and wanted a pastor to talk to.ย  Did I mention I was by myself and knew no one else would be coming in to work that afternoon?ย  It was a tad creepyโ€ฆย  Well, I just was going to have to handle it since he wasnโ€™t in any hurry to leave and had walked there.ย  So, knowing the power of God was always with me, I invited him to have a seat in the lobby and tried to gather information for a message.ย  He had asked for a bible so I ran to get him one โ€“ I couldnโ€™t wait till he had one in his hand!ย  Then he wanted to have a spiritual debate and tried to get belligerent about his point of viewโ€ฆsaying that the devil was โ€œall thatโ€ and that I โ€œbetter be afraid of him.โ€ย  He started sharing what all the devil could do to me.

Well, I was not afraid, but I was insulted for my God and the boldness about jumped out of me!ย  I told him, โ€œI am not afraid of him!ย  My God has the power!ย  The devil has already lost and I am covered by the blood of Jesus.ย  I personally know about the power of God and He never leaves me.ย  I think you should open that Bible that you are holding and find out who has the REAL power!ย  God can cast down ANYTHING the devil can do โ€“ as well as turn your life around AND save and protect you.ย  You and I never have to be afraid!โ€

About that time pastor walked inโ€ฆfor real!ย  Just โ€œhappenedโ€ byโ€ฆgo God!ย  I explained the situation and pastor took it from there.ย  I donโ€™t know whatever happened to the guyโ€ฆhe seemed pretty peaceful when he left and I know seeds were planted for deliverance and love by prayer and through the Word.ย  But it was still pretty creepyโ€ฆ

Another โ€œsituationโ€ happened when I was leading the singles and we had a movie night.ย  We had aboutโ€ฆ.hmmm, 40 or so male and female singles with guests there and we were popping popcorn, eating candy and going to watch Paul, the Apostle.ย  We were so excited!!!ย  Now, since it was a Christian movie I just kind of skimmed through it verifying content โ€“ not really worried about anything unseemly being in it.ย  BAD mistake.ย  I found out about half way through the movie there wereโ€ฆscenes shocking in mixed company much less in church!!

I truly almost fainted trying to get from the seats to the media booth.ย  My hand was shaking so bad I almost couldnโ€™t hit the fast forward switch.ย  Now, I would like to say that everyone handled it in a kind and quiet manner but in fact, that is NOT what happened.ย  They had a good laugh over it โ€ฆfor a long, long timeโ€ฆstill, in fact!

So, as you can see, ministry also entails โ€œlifeโ€ โ€“ funny and scary! As for work, I sincerely sought to serve as if I was serving Christ โ€“ knowing that my faithful and sacrificial seed was indeed pressed down, shaken together and running over, as the Bible says.ย  God not only blessed me but took everything I had to giveโ€ฆand used my work as my training ground for needs in the days ahead.ย  Speaking of days aheadโ€ฆ

I donโ€™t think we ever really prepare our hearts and minds for disasters.ย  We do prepare our bank accounts hopefully and our families certainly.ย  But our life?ย  Doesnโ€™t it always seem like that stuff happens somewhere else?ย  And even after Hurricane Katrina when we volunteered at the shelters in the Civic Center, how many of us were prepared for a cloud of wind and rain soon to come out of the tropics named Rita?

A few weeks after Katrina, I remember getting a call from Julie telling me that the family was insisting that I leave with them.ย  They knew I rarely left church early or focused on current events or anything.ย  I didnโ€™t even know a storm was coming!ย  Calling my sonโ€ฆwe made urgent plans to evacuate.ย  We were all heading to my brotherโ€™s in St. Francisville with a total of 11 animals and 21 people.

The church had been shut down and protected as much as we could.ย  I brought my work ย computer with me for safe keeping.ย  I had no idea that it would be almost two weeks before I would be back homeโ€ฆin my regular life, if you can call it regular life anymore.

It was the most disconcerting feeling ever.ย  Kind of like someone blowing on a dandelion ball and watching the seeds scatter.ย  The unknown wasโ€ฆ.frightening.ย  Once I knew that all my family members were safe and accounted for, I began using my church email and cell phone list to try to locate all the families.ย  It was amazing the emails and texts that came in from all over the south.ย  The church email database was born.

The church and so many homes had to be repaired or reconstructed.ย  Families from New Orleans and other damaged areas began arriving.ย  Some Southern Louisiana families never returned.ย  Then after about a yearโ€ฆthings were busy, but we were all cruising on our new normal speed, embracing life and seeing the power of God!

And suddenly, in a flash the season changed.ย  You know that you know that God has created seasons for a reason but you donโ€™t always realize what change comes on the wind with them.ย  The next season was more unexpected than Rita.ย  The church was moving to Gauthier Rd. and the definition of church as I knew it just changed!

It was exciting but WOW!ย  I had to remember to close my mouth.ย  I looked at my hands and knew that God had a plan.

Not afraid, I jumped right on inโ€ฆalong with everyone elseโ€ฆand hung on!ย ย  I was ready for the rideโ€ฆ

Holy Ghost adventure ride…

imagesCAT77I0EWhat a journey!ย  After each encounter with Jesus I would grow.ย  I spent lots of one-on-one time with Him just because I loved Him.ย  I may have lived by myself but I was never alone. His Word, with meditation and His Spirit taught me that I was always in His presence.

I learned not to be afraid to surrender anything to Him. All it took was His prompting whisper for me to give up another layer of flesh.ย  Truly, sacrificing to Him was never really sacrifice to me.ย  Like many of you I had learned that whatever I laid down in obedience was simply a stepstool to get closer to Him.ย  I knew my relationship with Him was somewhat different than others Iโ€™d heard aboutโ€ฆbut if we are all unique, and we are, wouldnโ€™t our experience with the Lord be unique too?

All I knew is that my God and I enjoyed each other.ย  For realโ€ฆENJOYED each other.ย  Donโ€™t you enjoy being around those that honor you, respect you, love you, romance you, reach out to you and stay close to you?ย  Why would He be any different?ย  Why would a God that died to live with usโ€ฆnot desire to BE IN our personal space and close to us?ย  He wants to hear us whisper His name and see our face light up.ย  It is personal!ย  Like when I worshipโ€ฆwhen my hands reach out for Himโ€ฆto touch Himโ€ฆI believe He is in my space and that I am in Hisโ€ฆand touching Him is what I was born to do.

I know that I (and you) can reach Him. His Word says that, โ€œI am holy because He is holyโ€ so I am free to meet Him in the Holy of Holiesโ€ฆeven just to dance.ย  Now, painfully, I have had to learn to let Him lead.ย  I canโ€™t tell you the times He has โ€œstoppedโ€ until I surrendered, trusted and relaxed to let Him lead.ย  But He ALWAYS waits for meโ€ฆand each day, each year, He leads more and I lead lessโ€ฆespecially as I learn to yield and guard myself against insecurity or victim flare ups that make me stumble.

To build me up God led me to begin fastingโ€ฆintense, powerful fasts for intercession, maturity, and sometimes just because He said so.ย  I would abstain from many foods โ€“ sometimes having just liquids, or fruits and veggies, or even just water.ย  I went on a media fast for many years in the beginning.ย  He didnโ€™t want any outside media speaking into me besides Him.ย  No radio, television or movies all that time. You talk about learn to hear His voiceโ€ฆand I got really sensitive to things that hurt my spirit.

I made a Nazrite vow and didnโ€™t cut my hair for 5 years.ย  From the time I got a chemical burn on my scalp and walked into the church for the first time – it grew from my shoulders to the small of my back.ย  That was such a private vow between Jesus and I.ย  He loved the gift of my hair (my banner for Him) and I loved Him.

Then He led me to dance in the dance ministry for several years.ย  My sister led Feet of Fire in the church. Oh my Jesus, the anointing on her and the dancers would be so powerful! ย ย And the practices were intense and passionate as we honored the King of Kings. There was always so much to do and I was just assisting her.ย  She would ask me and I would tell her that โ€œone dayโ€, sure, I would dance.ย  I wasnโ€™t ready to step out on the platform โ€“ I was still self conscious because I was overweight.ย  One day one of the dancers had to pull out for something personal and Julie put me in โ€œjust to practiceโ€.ย  And it was on!ย  Gloryโ€ฆI loved dancing for Him with the ministry!ย  How awesome to use your body to celebrate the One who created it!

By this time in my life, I was almost 46 years old and about to go through another changeโ€ฆ.

Knowing in the spirit that it was comingโ€ฆI received and accepted a secretary job offer from the church, and left the law firm. Nick Eno even told me that Iย  passed several โ€œtestsโ€ that I didnโ€™t even know I took – just to confirm it!ย  We all knew God brought me on board to help them. But I have to share this funny story.ย  When I got the job offer and met with them โ€“ I went home, prayed about it, gave my notice at work and let the pastors know. I am a fast worker, lol. I am the kind of person that once I make a decision, I jump out of the boat and never look back!ย  The church didnโ€™t quite have the contract details ready to go so I had a span of time without knowing what salary and benefits I would have. Ask me if I cared!ย  They knew I was bold about it and got a kick out of it. I remember meeting with the insurance guy after that and pastor came through. I handed him a copy of my resume just so he would know what specific skills I had and he took it on his way out of the office.ย  LOL, you could hear his happy holler after he read it outside. And with that, I stepped into the life of ministry.

God really began to release into me discernment and boldness as I stepped into working as a prayer counselor almost on a daily basis now.ย  Oh, all altar workers know how powerful it is to be trusted to stand in the gap for Godโ€™s people on His behalf.ย  There is nothing like looking into the eyes of someone seeking God and knowing personally whom they seek.ย  It is easy to pray when you know that you know what His power can do.ย  I love connecting with the spirit of a man or woman and watch Jesus reveal Himself to themโ€ฆand meet them at the place of their need.ย  He is a life changer…

Needless to say, my new journey was busy.ย  I was riding fast and glorious with Godโ€ฆabsorbing, working, learning, training, covering, serving, sacrificing, memorizing scripture, writing stories, dancing, praying at the altar, leading the singles andโ€ฆoh, writing and leading a singleโ€™s bible study. ย A Holy Ghost adventure ride! ย God just took the work of my hands and made it His.ย  After all, it was His.

And personally, at home of course I continued to see His face above me on the potterโ€™s wheelโ€ฆHis children are always being changed, receiving revelation, being pruned and growing inside.ย  But I just hung onโ€ฆand loved Him more with each turn of that wheel.

But I didnโ€™t know that one day soon, a big change was comingโ€ฆHurricane Katrina was on the horizon and Rita was close behind.

No excuses…

imagesCA005F3IDay-by-day my spirit continued to grow (just like yours!).ย  God made sure of that!ย  When He sat at the potterโ€™s wheel of my life, He โ€œknewโ€ what it would take to get me down the paths He destined and purposed for me.ย  No matter how much whining I didโ€ฆHe would just lean low and whisper, โ€œTrust meโ€.ย  And truly, why wouldnโ€™t I?

I loved Jesus, family, new life, churchโ€ฆand joy!ย  I was like a kid in a candy store for real.ย  I went to prayer services, watched, learned and wanted to be a prayer counselor, served as a greeter, began to be involved in the starting of a new singleโ€™s group.ย  I received love and encouragement from everyoneโ€ฆand bloomed.ย  Speaking of bloomingโ€ฆย  Have you ever picked up a board or something that has lain on the ground for a long time and saw what the plants looked like under it – undernourished, smothered, strung out, faded, not even reflecting the Creatorโ€™s purpose?ย  But you take that same plant, put it in fertile soil, tend it, give it light, the right food and the right positioning and you get a vibrant, rich, fragrant and powerful living thing.ย  My point exactly.

So once I was in my thriving position, I just enjoyed my new zone, always expecting more of the same feelings, thoughts and experiences in my life. It never occurred to me that He would have surprises for me – โ€œunannouncedโ€ spiritual lessons to experience.ย  I can only imagine God watching me get ready for church that Sunday morning knowing that I didnโ€™t know that He had positioned me for the โ€œnext levelโ€ of my destiny. For real, it is probably best that I didnโ€™t know.

It was a powerful praise and worship that dayโ€ฆGod was glorified and we were ready for the Word of God to be released.ย  Pastor passionately began the opening to his sermon โ€“ that he would be preaching on Godโ€™s most powerful creation โ€“ men โ€“ no, not โ€œmale and femaleโ€ โ€“ just men.ย  Well, whippee.ย  I was just as about excited as taking a case of castor oil.ย  I still remember how put out I was.ย  I feel sure that my smiling face was, uh, looking like I had eaten a lemon.ย  But, anyway, I sat there, grim on the inside but determined to listen to the message, sure that God would insert something in it somewhere that would relate to me and it wouldn’t all be a waste.ย  Isnโ€™t that how we do it?ย  With a preconceived notion of what โ€œweโ€ needโ€ฆor DONโ€™T?

Well, that message didnโ€™t work for me at all.ย  I got angrier and angrier and it was all I could do to sit there.ย  My teeth clenched as I heard all the raving reports about the power God put in the hands of men. That WE, women, were created FOR them.ย  Well, ask me if I was thrilled?ย  I was so mad that I could have slapped somebody.

As soon as service was over, me and my furnace of indignation hauled it right out of there.ย  I called the church office first thing that week and made an appointment with both he and his wife โ€“ letting them know it was because I was soooo upset because of his message that Sunday.

Well, I marched my little mad self in there for my appointment and we all went in and sat down.ย  They kindly and gently prompted me to begin.ย  The first thing out of my mouth after my smile was, โ€œWell, I just want you know that I am NOT at all impressed with manโ€™s use of their power.โ€

Now they were great, for real.ย  They both knew where I was coming from with my past and tried to encourage me for the rightness of Godโ€™s purpose โ€“ told me that I just hadnโ€™t known it the right way.ย  But I didnโ€™t WANT them to tell me my purpose was for โ€œmanโ€.ย  My purpose was for God and I wasnโ€™t having it any other way.ย  We visited a good while, prayed and then ended the meeting by all going into the prayer service that was going on.

Now, before I go into the next part of this story, I want you to know that God had already been building my relationship with them.ย  I knew God had brought me there to help them.ย  They knew it too. So, this โ€œsituationโ€ was unexpected.

Once I was back in the prayer service, God began to work on me.ย  He let me know up front and personal that I had a prejudice against menโ€ฆof course He knew whyโ€ฆbut prejudice isnโ€™t allowed.ย  I just was floored that me, a rape victim with 2 divorce issues, and a core belief that I was unloved by men โ€“ would be reprimanded for prejudice against men.ย  I thought forgiveness was enough. Then the sorrow hit meโ€ฆthe ugliness of it all.ย  I just prayed, โ€œGod help me do this.โ€ย  After prayer service I went up to pastor and asked him if I could be baptizedโ€ฆthat I had some deliverance issues to lay down.

Pastor had taught the prayer counselors that with โ€œsomeโ€ deliverance issues, sometimes baptisms are necessary to remove it off them.ย  I never knew that I would know it personally.

The next night was our Wednesday night service and we prepared for my baptism.ย  After church the baptismal was prepared.ย  My family was there, friends, and new church family โ€“ all looking over the edge of the glass wallโ€ฆwaiting for me.

In the dressing room I was looking at myself in the mirror. I changed and put on the long white baptismal gown and stood there with my long dark hair, big loop earrings and red lipstick.ย  My heart was so sad to let go of the loss of never knowing purity and innocence or โ€œfirstsโ€ as they were meant to be. Suddenly I reached up and took off the earrings and wiped off all the lipstick and just stood there in that white gown โ€“ no adornments โ€“ and just prayed that this baptism would be a miracle.ย  That God would do something supernatural as I came up out of the water. ย It still seemed unreal for Him to expect this of me but my heart was determined to follow Him anywhere.

I opened the door and went out.ย  Everyone was around and excited.ย  The men helped me climb the steps to the baptismal pool.ย  I went in and sat down in the warm, clear water, the white gown dancing in the current.ย  Friends and family were standing inches away on the other side of the glass wall.ย  Pastor was standing on my other side.ย  He laid his hand very gently on my head and began to pray into my spirit and into heavenโ€ฆI spoke the words for new life and I was lowered under the water.

As I came back up, hair streaming water all around me โ€“ I took a breath, and everyone was happy with congratulations. ย I was smilingโ€ฆbut I was listening for something supernatural. ย I knew that God spoke to Jesus and I had heard other stories of God touching people during baptisms. ย But I just couldnโ€™t hear anything.ย  So, slowly I stood up, with the white gown totally surrounding me and I walked toward the steps to climb out of the pool.

Now I didnโ€™t notice anything on the first step, but the second and each step thereafter,ย  something began to happen to me.ย  I didnโ€™t know what it was and I was trying to grasp it all. ย No one knew anything was going on. ย When I reached the highest step, I just stood there with water streaming down me and watching the men all run around below me preparing a way for me to safely climb down.ย  I just stood there trying to focus, not at all recognizing what I feltโ€ฆinsideโ€ฆ.I just felt soโ€ฆย  .soโ€ฆ.ย  so protectedโ€ฆ. so adoredโ€ฆ…so pureโ€ฆoh my Jesusโ€ฆโ€ฆ so innocent.ย  Innocentโ€ฆ

Even now the tears run down my face.

Can you see my friends, can you see?ย  In washing away the prejudice against men for what was stolen from me, only then, could God spiritually give it back.

I still remember that feeling of purity and innocence in my spirit.ย  No one can take it away from me.ย  Ever.

Nor can anyone take away what He gives you.

Thank you Jesus for the power of remembrance.ย  You are my heroโ€ฆall the days of my life.

Until tomorrow,ย  sweet dreams.

Spiritual touch…

imagesCAQCOBPIFrom then on I was totally in love with Jesus and I knew that I knew that He was totally in love with me.ย  His character and integrity awed me.ย  He wooed me gently as I danced for Him in worship.ย  In that setting, so many things about me began to change.ย  I didnโ€™t really know it but my family certainly could tell it.ย  Julie, shhh, I am telling this, lol!

Oh gosh, back in my pre-Jesus days, they share stories of my aggression with strangers that would invade or threaten my space or a loved oneโ€™s space.ย  I was the โ€œkeeperโ€ of the space, and was protective, much like having a guard dog.ย  That does not give you a warm fuzzy feeling does it? ย I can assure you, somewhere in the world there are people still bearing tongue lashing scars after encounters with me.

Then in my post-counseling days, if I didnโ€™t have a relationship with you, I probably wouldnโ€™t trust you.ย  Trust to me was something one โ€œearnedโ€ and never received without being proved worthy.ย  Women really got a break with that, but character and integrity for men โ€“ was not given high regard at all โ€“ or rather, none at all. My world stayed pretty small.ย  It is hard to keep your boundaries covered if your world gets too big.

But, it wasnโ€™t until I walked away from not one, but two husbands after a total of 24 years of marriage that I realized I had an issue.ย  Who sees a pattern with one time?ย  I could no longer just blame the people around me of having issues, but realized that it was me.ย  Now I am one of those people, that once they get their mind set on something, nothing will stop me.ย  Some say that I am extremely strong-willed, some say stubborn, I say, sighโ€ฆโ€œI hate it when they are rightโ€.ย  So God began to open up a door for meโ€ฆ

I donโ€™t know if you have thought of it, but because of my traumatic experiences, I was carrying within me perceptions that controlled me in reactive instances.ย  While much of my external life had been addressed and had me in a safe healthy place, my internal life was still very much controlling the issues deep inside, i.e., when something would trigger hurt, fear, betrayal, rejection, etc., I would shut down communication and/or gentleness, put up walls and step into PROTECTION mode.ย  My personality would be more like a porcupine on alertโ€ฆuntil me, myself and I determined that it was safe to come out.ย  Has anyone ever been around an angry porcupine?ย  Not for long, lol.

But anyway, you do what you do because you believe what you believe.ย  You continue learned habits, patterns, behaviors, sensitivities, addictions, passions, desires, prejudices, and absolutely EVERYTHING you learned through life – until you learn not to do it.

Now we never get to the place in our God-relationship that He doesnโ€™t reveal areas He wants changed. ย There is nothing you can do about that truth. The closer you get to Him it is simply the more He lets you see, not just about Himโ€ฆbut also about you. Though He himself never changes, we will change till He brings us home or rolls back the heavens with a shout and comes to get us.

You can fight Him, but He will win.ย  The beauty of our life journey is that all Christians are in phases of these changes and revelations.ย  We pray in them, we praise in them, we worship in them, we serve in them, we teach in them, we outreach in them, and we preach in them.ย  God doesnโ€™t wait till we are through โ€“ because we are never through!ย  He just uses us when we get to the point He wants.

Oh, wow, I remember so many things when He began to redefine me.ย  That is what I called it.ย  When my definitions didnโ€™t match His in the Word, they had to go.ย  I learned down to my soul, that just because I thought it didnโ€™t mean it was true. My next stories will be these private places that He took me when He laid me on that potterโ€™s wheelโ€ฆand changed me.ย  But His hands never left me for one second and His eyes watched me each round that wheel turned.

When I realized that I believed wrong things I was stumped.ย  I didnโ€™t know what to do.ย  It wasnโ€™t my fault that I believed what I believed.ย  Bad things really happened.ย  Survival skills were how I made it through it all.ย  I couldnโ€™t undo my experiences. Then, I realized that I had to replace the lies (my beliefs) with the truth (His Word).ย  I literally went through the Bible and began listing things that I was supposed to believe about problem areas for me โ€“ that I didnโ€™t believe.ย  I made postcards and hung them all around my apartment, I framed them, I read them aloud daily, I memorized them and I slept with my Bible every night.

And day by day, lie by lie, the truth replaced the lies and I no longer was a victim of my wrong beliefs.ย  I would get so excited when I would see myself respond with my new beliefs!ย  I would keep pressing when I would respond with my old beliefs.ย  The Lord spent many nights with me…teaching and encouraging….it was glorious.

Sometimes I just praised, worshiped, and danced โ€“ across the bed, the furniture, and the floor.ย  I had ahold of my Jesus and I wasnโ€™t letting go.ย  He was rocking my world and would always do things for me that no one else could doโ€ฆ

Now God knew that I remembered the real monster in the dark when I was a little girl.ย  So when I first moved into my apartment I left some lights on so that I wasnโ€™t in the dark.ย  But after encounters with God were changing meโ€ฆI turned off the lights and began to dance in the dark, literally.ย  Oh, Jesusโ€ฆnobody gives freedom like You do.

Late one night I crawled into bed, pulled the covers up and whispered good night to Himโ€ฆand I felt a kiss on my forehead.ย  Now I donโ€™t care what anyone thinksโ€ฆI know that He kissed me goodnightโ€ฆand watches over me still.

Another time, I woke up early one morning and I was surrounded by scripture.ย  My Bible had finally broken apart in the bed and I was laying all over the chapter of Song of Songs.ย  How awesome is that for saying, โ€œI love youโ€?

And then He touched my mind with beautiful stories of encounters with Him.ย  Oh, if only my words could reveal what my heart sees!ย  Perhaps tomorrow night I will post oneโ€ฆ

But anyway, after a year, well, I wasnโ€™t who I was going to beโ€ฆbut I was no longer the victim, the survivor, the oppressed, the betrayed, or the sacrificed.ย  I was a Princess and warrior of the King of Kings. God said so.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

For real, the journey wasnโ€™t easy.ย  But, so what.ย  I wasnโ€™t quitting!

Supernatural all the way…

131207050324wybeโ€œI didnโ€™t know Jesus wanted us to love Him like that,โ€ is what I told myself as I entered the atmosphere of the new spirit-filled church that my family and I were going to now.ย  We visited for Easter 2003, visited a time or two after that โ€“ and then, never left.ย  I would watch men, women and children praise and worship God in a way that I had never known โ€“ or even thought about.ย  I was so shy and embarrassed to raise my hands.ย  I didnโ€™t mind clapping and singing but anything else seemed MUCH too personal or expressive.ย  I saw Julie help herself to praise and worship, and my parents, and little by little God was nudging me to loosen my restraints.

I am definitely a โ€œwatcherโ€, learning and making mental notes, always studying to prepare for what is ahead.ย  Nothing in my life had prepared me for the โ€œspiritualโ€ smorgasbord that we found in that small church.ย  Only thing isโ€ฆI wasnโ€™t sure when I would want to partake of some of those really personal things.ย  I was so private.

Altar prayer was amazing.ย  Watching the people โ€œchooseโ€ to have people pray for them up front amazed me even more.ย  The music, singers and band were more vibrant than anything I had ever seen.ย  It was all soโ€ฆsoโ€ฆsoโ€ฆpassionate and loud.

I had never received so many hugs in my life โ€“ and my own family are some Olympic huggers, lol.ย  Everyone WANTED to love you at church.ย  I think that was the difference.ย  No one cared about anything else but loving you.ย  I cried the first 6 months I was there.

I watched the pastor on the platform and he loved Jesus all over the place.ย  He had no pride or shame as far as God was concerned.ย  He would fall on his knees and have his prayer closet right there on the platform in front of God and everybody.ย  Well, I guess God was the point!

My eyes didnโ€™t know where to look at first.ย  But finally I focused on the platform and all the loving on Jesus by the pastor.ย  I finally began to realize that I wanted to love Jesus like that!

It didnโ€™t take me long to begin to join the church body loving on each other and mostly on Jesus.ย  It was all such a celebration and open door to enter a literal, spiritual, relationship with God.ย ย  They talked a lot about power but just touching Jesus was what I thought about.ย  I like the thought of my God being a passionate God that wanted to love on me.ย  I began to receive more and more Word and Spirit teaching and my heart felt like a spongeโ€ฆsoaking up all of it.ย  I KNEW the Bible.ย  No problem there.ย  But they taught me how to speak it with authority and how to believe that it was alive.

I asked a lot of questions about speaking in tongues, dreams, visions, discernment, warfare, etc.ย  There was just so MUCH I didnโ€™t know!ย  I had all that scripture in me and it was stirring in my belly wanting me to do something.ย  I used to sitย  far from the front during serviceโ€ฆbut then we started to move closer and closer to the platformโ€ฆwanting more.ย  LOL, any closer and we would have been ON the platform!

Now before I go any further, I want you to know that most of the rest of my stories are powerful, spiritual and touched by the creative hand of God.ย  God is as real and personal as you will allow Him to be.ย  For me, so much damage had been done way down in my spirit that I had a destiny appointment that was about to begin.ย  We are body, soul and spirit, and only my body and soul were nourished.ย  That was about to changeโ€ฆ

I started doing a ladiesโ€™ bible study on Breaking Free that summer.ย  It really was totally intense, invasive and revealingโ€ฆgoing deep into the crevices of the heart.ย  In many ways I was very shy with it, knowing where all I had beenโ€ฆbut I was determined. ย I was eager for anything that was true. ย It cost me a lot of tears.ย  It rewarded me with lots of insightโ€ฆ.and courage.ย  When I got to the middle of the study there was a section on Song of Songs and learning about totally having a personal love relationship with Jesus.ย  The instruction was to imagine loving on Jesus, personally. ย Now, nothing inappropriate was meantโ€ฆjust totally free and exposed before your God.ย  I just knew I would get struck by lightening for even saying it โ€“ and I didnโ€™t know how to imagine it or ask him.ย  As a child suffering I didnโ€™t even think He wanted anything to do with me.ย  I began to cry, afraid of it, then pushed the workbook aside, went to the living room and hit my knees.ย  With everything in me I cried out to God to love meโ€ฆand let me love Himโ€ฆto teach me how to love Him because I didn’t know howโ€ฆand that I promised that I would give Him all of meโ€ฆnothing held backโ€ฆif He would give me all of Him.ย  I wept on the floor laying my heart on the altar.

A few days later I was heading home from the law firm when I began to have my first spiritual experience – a sensation of God being with me.ย  I was driving mind you, on the road!ย  I got weaker and weaker โ€“ so much at peace that I was literally melting in my seat.ย  I remember being aware that something was happening and saying, โ€œBut I need to drive home first!โ€ย  When I got home, I wobbled up to the door, and went inside.ย  I collapsed into a rocker I had in the middle of my seating area. ย I was totally spiritually aware for the first time in my life!ย  It wasnโ€™t like I could see with my physical eyes โ€“ but I most definitely was aware of His presence with my spiritual eyes.ย  I knew that He was answering my heartโ€™s prayer from a few nights ago and stepping into my life in a way that I would never forget.ย  Ever.ย  I just stayed sitting there amazed for quite awhile.ย  It just never occurred to me that He would come to me personally.ย  At one point I had the sensation of Him leaning over my left shoulder and inhaling deeply.ย  I somehow knew that He had just inhaled the love in my heart. ย I donโ€™t know how my lips worked, but I told Him, โ€œI will follow you anywhere.โ€

Now the evening this was happening was a Tuesday night.ย  On Tuesday nights we had prayer service at church.ย  At some point it occurred to me that I needed to go to church.ย  Eventually I stood up, my legs still shaky, and I picked up my purse to walk to the door.ย  I opened it to go out, then looked back in my apartment and then out my door again.ย  I wasnโ€™t sure what to do.ย  I was going to prayer service to prayโ€ฆbut I was already with Him.ย  Literally, as God is my witness, I asked Him, โ€œAre you comingโ€?ย  I can only imagine heaven laughing about that one.

From that day forward my experiences, revelation, growth, healing, and purposes began to increase 10 fold.ย  For the first time in my life I realized that I didnโ€™t need to go anywhere to find Jesus, because He was always with me (and you).ย  I was never alone again – my โ€œTeacherโ€ was always with me and I am a fast learner!

To close out tonight, we will end the Breaking Free Bible Study. We finished the study and I was asked to testify because they knew what an impact it had made on my life.ย  But since I was too nervous to speak, they let me write it.ย  At that moment in time, God touched me and I began my first inspirational writing.ย  I wrote a story about Jesus taking me on a deliverance journey.ย  My hand shook so hard that I could hardly read it but it didnโ€™t matter, destiny was released and the ladies roared.

After that, everything began happening so quickly.ย  I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and began to speak in tongues.ย  Worship birthed on the inside of me and I began to basically sing along with hand movements.ย  I learned that I was born to be a liturgical worshiper.

Who knows why God touched me (or you) the way He did.ย  I guess it all has to do with what He has for us to do.ย  For me, so much in my mind was painful.ย  If you ask me, He just gave me beauty for ashes.

I would like to tell you that was all there was to it.ย  Mercy, for real, that was only the beginning.ย  My past didnโ€™t give up without a fight, blood, sweat and tears.

This is only the pause of a time out.

Damage and deliverance…

imagesCAYMVT77One September night in 1998 just a few months after my sonโ€™s high school graduation, I was working in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on supper.ย  Zeb and his stepdad were working in Westlake driving dump trucks and I was waiting on them to get home.ย  Zeb got home first.ย  His stepdad never made it past the red light.ย  A man driving a truck with minimal insurance ran the red light and hit him basically head on.ย  We got the phone call and ran for the hospital.ย  41 days later he was discharged home with a wheelchair, walker, and nursing care to check on him during the week.ย  He had endured surgery, ICU for a collapsed lung and rehab for a shattered hip and socket โ€“ along with huge bruises and stitches.ย  We had been transferred from 4 days in Lake Charles to 12 days in Houston back to 25 days in Lake Charles.ย  By the 25th day, I just looked at the chair that I would sleep in again and cried.

It is so hard to see someone you love suffer; especially when you know the end of the suffering isnโ€™t just around the corner.ย  It was a very trying time for all of us.ย  The house had to be transformed so that he could maneuver safely without tripping.ย  I became legal secretary by day and nurse by night.ย  Recovery was a 7 month process.ย  But eventually we got a little breathing space, was able to take him to church, and his faith was still strong.ย  Then less than a year later they needed to do the surgery again โ€“ the huge surgery repair didnโ€™t take and he would need to have the total hip replaced.ย  So we went around the mountain againโ€ฆexcept this time he began to change from all the anger of getting no compensation, retribution or hope. We finally realized that he would be left with some disability. He hated being a victim and he hated the guy that hit him.

We were all enduring the tremendous pressure and responsibilities.ย  Then unresolved, ignored and overlooked marriage issues began to take over as we began to be divided and fighting against each other.ย  No longer partners but roommates. No love, just caretaking โ€“ and one sided at that. ย My health began to suffer, I stuffed myself with emotional eating, was diagnosed with Crohnโ€™s Disease and forced to take many shots and medications, and needless to say, depression arrived up front and center. I ended up on anxiety medication.ย  I smoked just as many cigarettes as I possibly could.ย  Then I stayed so sick from smoking until they diagnosed me with chronic bronchitis.

During all this time I was still trusting in God. Trusting but hurting. Praying for strength and guidance but locked in survival mode. My son and my family were a blessing from the throne of God.ย  When you talk about people holding your arms upโ€ฆI know all about that.ย  I am sure many of you know that position tooโ€ฆ

One night my husband and I were watching a special program about euthanasia on television and he told me, โ€œI wouldnโ€™t let you suffer if you got really sick and in the bed; I promise I would put you out of your misery.ย  Oh, I wouldnโ€™t shoot you are anything, I would just smother you or something.โ€ย  I donโ€™t think I said anything.ย  At least I canโ€™t remember saying anything.ย  I just sat there and the last tie holding my heart together came apart.

All I could think was of all of the time that I had cared for him, kept him safe and protected him as best I could – but if I got sick for long, I might not see morning. ย It was over.ย  I knew our marriage would not survive.ย  He thought he was doing something honorable because his mom had suffered โ€“ but instead he had just killed my heart. I would not live afraid like I had as a child.

A couple of days later at work, the secretaries and I were discussing marriage issues and I told them mine was over.ย  Shocked, they asked when I was leaving.ย  I left that night when I got home.ย  It was Pearl Harbor Day, Dec 7, 2002.ย  I was 44 years oldโ€ฆand starting over again.

I spent the first month crying, packing and afraid God was going to punish me for leaving.ย  As a Christian, knowing that I was breaking a covenant, I asked for forgiveness with all my heart.ย  I wasnโ€™t looking around me for a man; I just was looking up to God.ย  Thatโ€™s all I knew.

I moved in with Julie and her family for 9 weeks to save up enough money to move into an apartment.ย  I was getting less afraid of punishment for leaving and beginning to enjoy the peace and new opportunities.ย  One night Julie, Jade and I took off to Victory Worship in Sulphur to a healing service. ย I had never been to one!ย  It was totally wonderful!ย  I didnโ€™t know you could get delivered like that!ย  I laughed and we ran from line to line getting prayer for smoking, healing and deliverance. We celebrated and received the power of God!ย  And me, well, to this day I have never smoked again.ย  Nope, not even a craving.ย  Now THAT is a miracle!

In March of 2003 I moved into my own apartment โ€“ all by myself for the first time ever!ย  I loved it.ย  I was off all medications.ย  I was no longer eating based on my emotions and began to lose weight.ย  I was healing and happy out from under oppression.ย  I decorated my apartment and spent time with family and God.ย  Life was wonderful.ย  I was still pretty shy from all the destruction and wounding but I was standing taller, day by day.ย  If anyone asked me about dating, wellโ€ฆthey didnโ€™t ask again.

Easter of 2003 Julie had invited us to a new church she heard about.ย  Jade was going to participate in the Easter program and Julie wanted us to go. ย So Good Friday I went and bought some new dye and colored my hair โ€“ excited that we were going out to eat boiled crawfish and have a good Easter weekend.ย  But Saturday morning when I woke up, I couldnโ€™t open my eyes, my head and hair were wet and my pillow soaked.ย  I managed to get to the mirror and realized that I was allergic to the hair dye and had a chemical burn over my whole scalp.ย  Fluid filled my face and head to where I was swollen like a balloon.ย  If I laid my head to one side, the fluid would go to that side. It was perfectly painful and awful!ย  Everyone insisted I still go to church for Easter service.ย  So trying to be inconspicuous I went.ย  As we were walking up to the church doors Jade said, โ€œAunt Patti, your face is jiggling when you walk!โ€ย  I couldnโ€™t believe I was out in publicโ€ฆbut I ignored my bouncing face and walked up to the church doors and entered Christian World for the first time.

I just THOUGHT my life had changed before.ย  LOL, I hadnโ€™t seen anything yet!!!

No longer a victim…

imagesCAEMHBQDStepping into the end of the third year in Kansas it was a great summer.ย  I was getting much stronger emotionally โ€“ much less angry โ€“ and adjusting my mind and life with proper boundaries and relationships.ย  Nothing was firmly rooted until I had reviewed it!ย  I found it totally intolerable to leave anything in or around me related to those โ€œlearnedโ€ mindsets. If it wasnโ€™t โ€œreallyโ€ normal and healthy for meโ€ฆit (whatever โ€œitโ€ was) was gone. Poof!ย  I think everyone was a little nervous.ย  I could still be pretty aggressive in that phase of recovery.ย  But for the most part, life calmed down.

One afternoon, sitting in a counselorโ€™s office, the counselor asked me what I thought of all the changes around me that I had put into motion.ย  I recall looking at her and saying, โ€œYou know, I was wondering, if I continue to cut everyone out of my life that hurts me or causes me pain, wonโ€™t I finally end up by myself?โ€ย  She laughed and said, โ€œYou got it!ย  That is the whole point.ย  You are healed and you donโ€™t need me any more.ย  You can choose to work things out or not.ย  But you can choose.ย  People will never be perfect.โ€

So, I closed the door on that chapter of my life.ย  I walked away with new awareness and tools for a more emotionally healthy living. ย I ended the karate and self defense classes.ย  We still partied a littleโ€ฆbut that would be over for me shortly. ย We were all three going to church now.ย  I began to get out the Bible that I had received as a little girl for my catechism from my aunt.ย  I began to read what it said when I had an issue that I was concerned about.ย  I almost left my husband up in Kansas towards the end of our time there. I came very close.ย  He was pretty threatened by all the changes in me.ย  I was different and I was more self sufficient.ย  I felt sorry for him but I wasnโ€™t going back to who I was.ย  I just waited and didnโ€™t leave. I read the Bible from time to time โ€“ not really understanding it โ€“ but somehow knowing that there were answers in there somewhere.ย  I just knew I needed to look.

Within a short time my husband told me he wanted to accept a job offer from back home. Yeah, yeah!ย  We were returning after being gone five years.ย  Now back home, my family was thrilled.ย  I still was not communicating with โ€œhimโ€ – I wasnโ€™t ready and I just wasnโ€™t going to do it.ย  My sister Julie had had a little girl, Jade, that I was so excited to meet for the first time!!ย  I knew Julie and all of us were still trying to live life with Gavin gone.ย  I also knew they were all trying to be what I needed them to be.ย  They were wonderful.ย  You have no ideaโ€ฆ

We moved home Labor Day weekend โ€“ Jadeโ€™s 1st birthday!ย  We moved into the old two story family homestead that my grandfather grew up in. ย I needed to go back and start all over โ€“ and I wanted my son to go to a country school, be able to camp, have pets, hunt, ride 3 wheelersโ€ฆall that.ย  Home Sweet Home!

In no time at all we began going to Trinity Baptist where Julie and my parents were going.ย  I began to read the Bible all the time. Now, I donโ€™t think that I have mentioned that I smoked.ย  Oh, my gosh, I puffed away each chance I got.ย  And if I didnโ€™t get a chance, I made one! I had smoked off and on since I was a kid when I would hide and do it.ย  But anyway, I would puff and read the Word.ย  It was like I craved them both.ย  I also donโ€™t think I ever mentioned how much I cursed.ย  Uhhhh, even my husband would say, โ€œPatti, thatโ€™s enough โ€“ that is bad for a man, much less a woman.โ€ย ย  I never smoked pot again after leaving Kansas. No going backwardsโ€ฆ

After a few months being home, I got baptized at Trinity. It was great enjoying church with family.ย  Everything was so awesome. Then one day out of the blue in a store, I heard someone cuss โ€“ and realized that I didnโ€™t cuss anymore!ย  I was so excited!ย  It was a miracle.ย  No matter what happenedโ€ฆthose words just didnโ€™t come up out of my lips anymore. ย Other Christians struggled with that but not me.ย  Thank you, Jesus!ย  I guess that my mouth was so bad that He had to take it!ย  How embarrassingโ€ฆ

Having been raised up Catholic and used to someone else talking to God for me, I loved the new way to learn about God.ย  I read, and read, and read.ย  In fact, it probably wonโ€™t be a great surprise but the Word is where Jesus revealed Himself to me.ย  I read it cover to cover a couple of times.ย  We began going to a country Baptist church out by our house and I began leading the youth.ย  I wrote a Christmas play and we put it on.ย  I loved to memorize scripture and listen to music.ย  I loved having a church family and learning what God said and taught.

Then in the middle of this, God finally moved on my heart to forgive the one whoโ€™s name I wouldnโ€™t say.ย  I couldnโ€™t imagine feeling forgiveness. I knew God would have to do it for me.ย  But God is a Waymaker and He eased forgiveness into my heart.ย  I just had to be willing.ย  Restoration began one step at a timeโ€ฆnothing forcedโ€ฆjust safely and with God.ย  And like all things growing, when it gets what it needs, it begins to bloom.ย  Godโ€™s love is powerful and I received a huge miracle.

But thenโ€ฆhow many times have you just gotten a victory, revelation or healing when the enemy will aim for the kill?ย  Oh, yes.ย  So many of us know his strategy!ย  And he tried to do it with us tooโ€ฆ.but God made sure that all anger was removed from me and that forgiveness was firmly in place before an unexpected situation entered the picture.ย  I honestly hit my knees in gratefulness that the enemy could not use the authority handed to me to make a decision based on anything but a Godly purpose . Our family had more changes that came about and outside interventionโ€ฆbut God used this situation as the finishing touch and not the destruction that the enemy had aimed for.ย  The abuse was forever ended but God got the glory!

Life went onโ€ฆour families grew in loveโ€ฆand God shined His face upon us.ย  Before I knew it Zeb was graduating from high school and we were moving into Lake Charles from the country. I was working at a law firm as a legal secretary and doing well. ย We were going to 1st Baptist Church downtown and continuing to grow. My husband and I were doing well.ย  He was a truck driver.ย  Needless to say, he was on the road a lot.

I wish we would have known what was on the road that September night as he left work to head home.ย  But we didnโ€™t โ€ฆ and life changed again.

Husband number 2…

Whew!ย  Always good to turn the page!ย  That was some intense stuff on my last post.ย  But, I just buried it and kept on going.ย  It is not like I knew that I had issues.ย  All I knew is that I was 27 years old and free for the first time โ€“ on my own as a single parent โ€“ and liking it!

I will steer this next season of my life to introduce my second husband.ย  We were married almost 15 years. We met at a Parentโ€™s Without Partnerโ€™s event. I had been โ€œsingle againโ€ about two years and was working and still going to college. He was almost 12 years older than I was and came from a totally different lifestyle in New Orleans.ย  He was a tough guy, used to bars and partying, camping and being aggressive if protection was needed.ย  Since I had no goals of my own, jumping into his life seemed easy enough.ย  We dated about a year, had a fight, made up and took off to Las Vegas to get married.

Yes, can you believe it?ย  For real we took a limo ride from the courthouse to the Little White Chapel and got married with music playing out of a boom box.ย  We were in love but I knew that we had some serious major differences and I stuffed my concerns down deepโ€ฆthat was easy for me.ย  But, all in all, I was happy, eager to settle down and be a wife again.ย  You know, being a wife gave me an identity role that I knew how to manage โ€“ and his toughness made me feel safe โ€“ like he could protect me from anything.ย  I grew stronger and more assertive in that environment.ย  We were doing pretty good.

We moved a few months after we got married to Denham Springs with his job transfer and stayed there a couple of years. I partied more in the next 5 years than I ever had in my whole life.ย  I never had been much of a drinker.ย  I thought it tasted bad โ€“ I just wanted a drink that had fruit in it, lol.ย  We danced a lot โ€“ you have to remember I graduated from high school and then disco rolled in.ย  My husband drank a lot. And at 30 years old I smoked pot for the first time.ย  Looking back, I canโ€™t believe that I did.ย  My nature was to be scared of everything. ย But I just slid on in to the new me.ย  See how easy that happens?

As for being away from home, I really enjoyed being away from Lake Charles and was eager to move again.ย  After a couple of years we moved to Dodge City, KS and there we stayed for three years.ย  We were a pretty strong family unit by then.ย  My son was growing up and doing well. I was working and advancing at the regional hospital there. We were enjoying exploring a new environment.ย  Oh my gosh!ย  Tumbleweeds are real!ย  You really have to sleep in the basement because of tornadoes!ย  There are coyotes and canyons! There are hail storms, blizzards, wind all the time, and dry river beds. I studied and knew more about Kansas than those that lived there!!!ย  It was great. Remember, I love to explore.

But other than that, I just shake my head thinking about the rest of it – so much happened in those three years. The first year in Kansas we lost Julieโ€™s youngest son, 2 ยฝ year old Gavin from a burn accident and our family was wounded beyond anything that we could ever have imagined.ย  It will be 20 years next week and in any given second those memories can replay.ย  This, my friends, is where I saw Jesus for the first time.

My sister, Julie, had long been a Christian โ€“ having given her life to the Lord in middle school during some traumatic times.ย  She learned early how to depend on God.ย  But, I really wasnโ€™t concerned a whole lot about God.ย  I didnโ€™t think He really wanted much to do with me anyway.ย  I just didnโ€™t know the journey that we were all about to take.ย  I got the call about Gavinโ€™s injury just hours after they delivered our new sofa in Dodge City.ย  Isnโ€™t it amazing that you remember the oddest things?ย  So odd.ย  I donโ€™t think anything in our lives was ever the same after that.ย  My son and I flew out to meet them all in Galveston at the burn hospital the next day. ย Thinking everything was going to be fine we were just looking at doing what we needed to.ย  But it wasnโ€™t that simple.ย  The injury went bad in surgery and we lost him.ย  I wonโ€™t say all the things I remember in my heart.ย  But I will say that my sister is an amazing woman with more God in her than you can ever imagine.

I have to say this because experiencing this with her was a life changing experience.ย  I watched my sister wrap that little white casket with a huge bow for the funeralโ€ฆas her gift to God.ย  I saw her love her God so much that my heart (the hidden one) began to crack open.ย  My life changed forever.ย  All of our lives changed.ย  And perhaps many of you know this journey too.ย  I know your life changed.ย  God bless youโ€ฆ

After the funeral we all had to go back to our homes and try to live again.ย  And you do, because living is what we do. But my son and I began to go to church.ย  It began to be important to me to know where Gavin wasโ€ฆand know that all our family would be together again one day.ย  I began to learn.ย  And life went on, differently, but life went on.

But my heart had been cracked open and God had plans for me. Within six months I ended up bringing my son to a counseling agency for some school related problems.ย  During the intake interview the counselor kept quizzing me about my life.ย  I kept telling him that everything was wonderful โ€“ nothing was wrong in the family besides the loss of my nephew.ย  He persisted and like a little light going off, I suddenly remembered the secret I buried long ago, and said, โ€œOh, well there is this one little thingโ€.ย  Needless to say, he was totally upset and shocked, I almost laughed.ย  I became his new project.

There is no need to say that my life changed totally again.ย  Under the care of outpatient counselors they taught me how to open up and deal with the pain of the past.ย  I wonโ€™t tell you that it wasnโ€™t bad.ย  It was a total nightmare.ย  I had so much anger that rose up it scared meโ€ฆand my family.ย  I began to take karate lessons, and self defense classes. My husband and son would try to be in bed before I got home because I wanted to practice with them. I became focused on protecting myself โ€“ determined to never be a victim again.ย  I lost tons of weight because my stomach always burned.ย  I walked so much up and down the hills that several of my toe nails turned black and fell off.ย  I couldnโ€™t sleep.ย  I couldnโ€™t eat.ย  I broke a baseball bat in half over a picture of โ€œhimโ€.ย  I didnโ€™t speak his name for two years. I became very aggressive. And I roamed the countryside and thought about running into a telephone pole to end it all.

Whoa nowโ€ฆ.I know that is a lot of trauma in a short span of time.ย  But I want you to know (unbeknownst to me) that I know now that God kept his eye on me and I began to heal.ย  I was still going to church.ย  I didnโ€™t know Him yet, but I was beginning to seek Him. I stopped watching horror movies.ย  When I found out that I watched them because I identified with the fear, it grossed me out.

By this time in my life, I was the last person in my immediate family that was unsaved.ย  But God doesnโ€™t waste anything my friends, even heartbreak.ย  And that goes for all of us.

Tomorrow I will turn the story to moving home where I would meet for the first time my new one year old niece, Jade.ย  Godโ€™s gift back to us and we learned to laugh again.

Lots had truly happened in my life so far, but finallyโ€ฆthere were no more secrets.

My God is faithful.

Future 101

Going back in time…

Wow, when you are 52, going back decades to childhood is quite a trip!ย  Too funny! But then again, for real, donโ€™t we all sometimes see something that triggers a playful childhood memory?ย  Do you remember playing king of the mountain, or hide and go seek, or playing in the rain, or riding a bike, or trying to dig up a rabbit hole in the woods?ย  I canโ€™t help but laugh.ย  Oh wait; have you ever had a tarantula jump on your bike tire?ย  I have!ย  Have you ever jumped off a cliff?ย  I have!ย  Have you every โ€œrodeโ€ down a Christmas tree?ย  I have!ย  Have you ever been attacked by bats?ย  I have!ย  Eeek! I can tell you that this is where my spirit of exploring comes from.

There are so many wonderful memories, experiences and powerful things taught by my parents and family. Things that have seeded into my victories as an adult โ€“ lessons learned โ€“ wisdom passed down.ย  May I give my son, Zebulon and his childrenโ€ฆor anyone I meet a transfer of the blessings from the precious gifts I have retained from my childhood.ย  I love and respect them all. To this day, I have learned to produce by being constructive because my dad would ask me and my brothers and sister, โ€œWhat have you accomplished today?โ€ย  What honor I give to my parents as teachers.ย  What encouragement they gave because they always believed I could do anything.

Yes, all that is in my heart!ย  Praise God!ย  But โ€œotherโ€ life stuff still happens. The enemy always looks for ways to get people to listen to his whispering lies.ย  Children donโ€™t know that.ย  They just know who is the boss of them and that they have to trust the people around them to keep them safe.

For those of you who do not know my testimony, understand that this sharing is to show the glory that will come later in my blog story.ย  This is necessary now for the later revelation to have the true impact that I experienced when God began to restore me in this area.ย  If you do know of my testimony, I ask your patience as I repeat it.ย  If you are sensitive to childhood issues, I want you to know that I will only reveal my heartโ€™s thoughts, nothing else.

To begin, I will start my childhood story with the story of another child.ย  I was in my mid 30โ€™s and had just completed a year of intense outpatient post traumatic stress therapy in Dodge City, KS where I lived.ย  I was in a setting structured to expose issues buried long ago so that I could learn how to address those experiences.ย  I got off work one afternoon from the hospital where I worked and dropped by the local grocery store.ย  I was tired, wired and just ready to get home.ย  I just had a few items in my hand and walked up to the checkout line.ย  There was a mother checking out in front of me but as she talked to the checkout clerk she left her little boy in a buggy behind her.ย  Then I entered the picture. I walked up and stood behind the buggy where he was.ย  I wasnโ€™t paying him any notice until he began to fuss and complain.ย  I was surprised and didnโ€™t know what he was fussing about to me.ย  I glanced at his mom and she wasnโ€™t concerned at all.ย  He was staring angrily at me and I am sure I just look surprised.ย  All of a sudden I realized what was wrong with him.ย  I was too close to him.ย  I was in his space.ย  I took two steps back and waited for his response.ย  He gave me the biggest smile ever. I have never forgotten him.ย  That is one of those epiphany moments in my life.ย  That little two year old boy knew his boundaries and was healthily claming them.ย  I was so proud of him.

I wished I would have had that option.

As a young girl, I learned that there really were monsters in the dark.ย  I learned that men know how to keep secrets.ย  I learned about living a lie.ย  I learned a false definition of love. I learned how to be a sacrifice.ย  The rapes seemed to happen far away as if I was someone else. ย I would dissociate. I hid all the reality deep within me.ย  I learned to hate myself and never say a word.ย  Authority figures were the boss and I did what I was told.ย  I begged God to help me but when He didnโ€™t I thought He thought I was disgusting and didnโ€™t love me anyway.ย  I didnโ€™t blame Him.ย  I hated me too.ย  I learned to live life anywayโ€ฆvery angry deep inside.

When the victim season ended I just grew up and lived like everyone else.ย  However, there were some problem indicators. I wet the bed till I was 18 years old.ย  18 years old.ย  Wow.ย  I struggled with my weight from emotional eating.ย  I didnโ€™t share much personally about myself.ย  Other than that, I was involved in school, ran for elections, bloomed into a young woman, cheered, made good grades, had a boy friend, and worked at a pharmacy.ย  By the time I graduated, we were engaged.ย  No one noticed any issues at all.ย  But I rarely spent the night away from home.ย  No way. ย What teenager brings a plastic sheet with them? ย It was always amazing that people looked up to me and wanted their children to have my influence.ย  I was always surprised.ย  No wonder, the secret down inside me was always waiting.ย  As a woman, I just felt numb.

I married my childhood sweetheart at 18.ย  He was the football player and me the cheerleader.ย  We were picture perfect and had fun.ย  I didnโ€™t tell him till many years later about the secret that I hid for so long.ย  At 21 our son was born โ€“ life was wonderful โ€“ he was precious!ย  Then the enemy began to come between my husband and I with betrayal and secrets.ย  I tried but could never trust again. My heart shut down and we divorced after 9 years.ย  It was so sad that I never learned how to work things out โ€“ that things are worth fighting for.ย  I just endured till some unknown time frame ran out and then I walked away. I wasnโ€™t afraid to start over.ย  I just kept going. ย As a woman, I still just felt numb.ย  I had never really let him in my heart.ย  Truth be told, I donโ€™t even think I had been in my heart.

For the next season in my life, my son and I were together as a single parent family.ย  We eventually moved into the McNeese family apartments and I went to school during the day and worked as a traveling inventory auditor at night and on the weekends.ย  I LOVED life.ย  It was the first time that I had been on my own as an adult.ย  Bless my son for putting up with me!ย  I was part child and he was an explorer!ย  We were both exploring! It was great really. I know that I didnโ€™t have sufficient emotional tools in many ways but we loved each other, we were each safe, we had great times, and we kept growing.ย  God wasnโ€™t a part of our life yet – but my family kept reminding me that God was there.ย  I would just thinkโ€ฆmaybe one day.

It is time to pauseโ€ฆwow, what a journey I have been on in sharing.ย  Like all of you, we live life as we know it โ€“ until we know differently.ย  I never really had personal goals or dreams.ย  I didnโ€™t know a whole lot about myself inside.ย  It had been locked up so long.ย  I loved being a mother, daughter, sister, friend and student โ€“ was loyal, honest, smart โ€“ all that.ย  But personally, me as a womanโ€ฆthere didnโ€™t seem to be an identity.ย  I had walls up in my life.ย  I wasnโ€™t open or especially friendly with men I didnโ€™t know.ย  Rarely did I flirt.ย  I didnโ€™t know how to assert myself to explore that.ย  In many ways I was still a child.ย  I just wanted to be safe.ย  I just wondered if anyone would ever choose to love me.

To close out tonight, I can so see the video in my mind of the words that I have written.ย  I pray that you are beginning to see some of it too.ย  I still have more sharing before God steps into my picture. That is after all, the purpose for this.

I hope that you are connecting with the idea of โ€œroots and reasonsโ€ for why you do what you do.ย  Notice your patterns.ย  My testimony is more than a story.ย  I pray that you receive that hidden pain or destructive secrets are alive and fester โ€“ working to destroy life.ย  We need a doctor that will clean out the wound so that it can heal.ย  Jehovah Rapha is our healer and He does all things in His time.

So be blessed this night and forgive me for this heavy sharing.ย  Know that the dawn is coming. In therapy I was taught that the only healthy reason we look back is so that we can glean what we need to go forward.ย  I promise you, you will know the power of God when He gets His hands on all this in the days ahead.

Victory did come for me.

Future 101

This is what happened…

imagesCAH9WLA9Last night I ended Page 1 with an analogy when the Harley screeched to a halt at a cross roads. An ended journey that clearly revealed that life as I normally defined it would be forever changed.ย  That happened a couple of months ago.ย  Today, I assure you that the release of pressure and breath of freedom was truly immediate.ย  My relationship with Christ had prepared me.ย  You might say, He had already packed me for my new journey.ย  That in itself, once you learn my testimony, is truly a miracle.

Leaving the job and the church in Januaryโ€ฆmy season to end that cross road had been a long time coming. The beauty is that I left with all the treasures from those many years there as a member and a leader in the flock with the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, spiritual growth and strategy, altar prayer counselor experience, teacher in ladies bible study, leader in the singles, and sincere love to those I ministered and served for so many years. ย You see, the true value of that season comes with me โ€“ the things of the heart from me and from you.ย  Always know that YOU matter to me.ย  But the pressure, the infinite details, and all the waste of a spirit, well it truly will become beauty for ashes because my God is faithful.

This journey was prophesied back on November 1, 2009.ย  Even then God was preparing me.ย  Some of you may remember the guest Evangelist, Prophet and Singer that came to Christian World, John Ragsdale.ย  The following prophecy was spoken to me from the platform during service.ย  It was a particularly painful time for me and God read my spiritual mail for all the world to hear.ย  My spirit received it all.ย  I shareโ€ฆ

Patti, the Lord says to tell you that your past has prepared you for now.ย  Not just your training but your tribulation โ€“ the good, the bad and the ugly.ย  Every bit of that has gotten you where you are and is going to help take you where you are going.ย  And the Lord said to tell you specifically, because they have walked away from you and because thereโ€™ve been things that you have walked away from, that this is releasing you into this next time of destinyโ€ฆthis is destiny for youโ€ฆ.destiny for youโ€ฆ..

So, God has a plan!ย  Do you realize that He has one for you?ย  You see, I believe that we are all born purposely unique to God.ย  That we are born to do something individually for HIM that ONLY we will do.ย  It is personal.ย  Donโ€™t ever doubt that He desires to be up close to you โ€ฆmost definitely in your breathing spaceโ€ฆor breathing for you!

I tell you this because I didnโ€™t know it could even be personal between Jesus and I until a little over 9 years ago.ย  Oh, I had been a Christian for 9 years already.ย  I had volunteered in ministry. I had studied and memorized the Word of God. ย I was a wife, mother, mother in law, daughter, sister, friend, co worker, etc. ย But until I walked away from my second husband – I didnโ€™t see that I needed God to transform me to be what He created me to be โ€“ that things in me were brokenโ€ฆlike stained glass strewn all over the floor. It is amazing that many times we donโ€™t even see that we have emotional or addictive issues or behaviors until we do something more than once.ย  I never could believe that either of my two husbands loved me.ย  They tried to tell me but I never believed them. ย I didnโ€™t see myself as lovable, worthy or valuable.ย  I hated my self-definition or should I say, my experience-definition, and forever locked away my heart in a personal prisonโ€ฆmissing out on the freedom and beauty of true intimate heart relationships.

I will share many private encounters between He and I in this testimony blog.ย  I have to share it with you.ย  I need you to know that He fixes what is broken and if He doesnโ€™t fix it He can replace or recreate it.ย  He can give you a new mind, new beliefs, a clean heart, purity in the place of perversion, and testimonies for your scars. ย You donโ€™t have to be who you think you are.ย  He doesnโ€™t want you to be.ย  He wants you to be who He says you are.

We are to be scripturally created.ย  How cool is that!!!!

Tomorrow I will “begin” the reflection journey of this blog all the way back to the lies spoken as fear when I was a little girl…to the lies believed when I was a teenager…to the false beliefs I acted upon as a young woman…till the day Jesus showed me what He does to lies.ย  I don’t know how long this journey will take…but each moment will matter.

Bless all of you, have a peaceful nightโ€ฆfor God always โ€œgives His Beloved sweet sleepโ€.

The journey begins…

imagesCAD6F46BItโ€™s midnight โ€ฆand I am just now sitting down to write.ย  I am so excitedโ€ฆfor real.ย  I get to finally tell it like it isโ€ฆor, should I say, reveal who I am.ย  Generally, people only see what stands before them.ย  But they canโ€™t help it; after all, life is just too busy for us to see past the moment we are in.

But not me, right now, I seriously contemplate and focus on myself as I look in the mirror.ย  Oh my, I am truly grateful for hair dye, red lipstick and flashy bling!ย  God, thank you for the beauty supply industry!ย  My future would certainly be lessโ€ฆuhโ€ฆvibrantโ€ฆwithout such additionsโ€ฆgiggle.ย  Oh, sorry, I got sidetracked!

Okay, let me get back to my story.ย  It is time to open up my memories and heart to the places I have been and to the things that have left their mark in my life.ย  NOT for the purpose of sharing alone, but purposely to reflect on the things hidden in my past that Jesus had to touch and remodel years later. So here we goโ€ฆ

Oh wait, first let me go ahead and surprise many of you right up front.ย  One of my heartโ€™s desires for most of the last 10 years has been to get on a Harley and drive cross country by myself.ย  I am thinking I would have on black knee boots, jeans, big loops and hair (freshly dyed) blowing in the breeze.ย  The thought of this trip makes my heart twirlโ€ฆto be free to sight see, explore, and ride the wind.ย  Wow.

Now this may seem gypsy or hippy-ish to you, and it probably is!ย  But the truth of the matter is, my body, soul and spirit were โ€œdamageโ€ restricted through much of my life โ€“ so that when Jesus set me free โ€“ I hungered to embrace freedom any way I could!ย  My mind was set free, my destiny, my purpose, my identity!ย  (Oh, did you catch it?ย  I am driving.ย  I havenโ€™t yet met the man that I trust to drive me.ย  But that is another storyโ€ฆ)ย  So, on we go.ย  For the sake of the story line, come cruise with me.

The trip I dream about is all about the wind, hills, open fields, and authority to drive. I have a place to go and a destiny to meet. I feel 16 (going on 53) with the world in front of me!ย  Time has no meaning, for in the waiting God works His special power.ย  You knowโ€ฆwhen He prepares you for the days and years ahead and the choices that must be made. I so understand when His Word says, โ€œโ€ฆyou have been put in this position for such a time as thisโ€.

Back to the tripโ€ฆย  If you would, please focus and get a mental picture of me cruising down a long hilly highway at about 80 m.p.h., simply intent on living life as I know it.ย  Only thing is, I am going too fast, my Harley is loaded with responsibilities and pressure, I can barely see the open fields anymore and exploring has no available time on my agenda. ย Tired of this journey and nearing the end of my map of directions, I come atop the final hill and have to hit the brakes hard.ย  Rocks flying, I slide to a stop.ย  There before me is a T in the road, a cross road, or possibly from some perceptions, a dead end – because life as I know it just changed.

Been there?ย  Can you imagine my tires squealing, heart pounding, and pure adrenaline at the challenge I am suddenly faced with?

For realโ€ฆI stood up, put the kickstand down, and took off my helmet and glasses.ย  I shook out my hairโ€ฆand smiled.ย  Freedom!!!

Future 101 – Introduction

imagescacwfjdx.jpgI am a storyteller!ย  I love to share experiences, testimonies and my relationship with Jesus.ย  My first blog is entitled Future 101.ย  If you have ever reached a cross roads or seemingly dead end in your life and had to start over, come journey with me and let me share with you my life and how Jesus has made me who I am today.

In the days and years of yesterday, I may have known the oppression of fear, shame, betrayal, loss, divorces, mockery, tears, isolation and intense pressure…but let me assure you that God has indeed used these tough experiences along with my “destiny” to catapult me through the door to my future.ย  I stand here today with extremely powerful treasures.ย  I now release them to you!

So many times we sit in a church pew and never truly “know” the story of the precious person sitting next to us, so today, I welcome you to come with me…read my story as I share more of it each day.

I pray that you will be touched, inspired and encouraged to then go share yours!!!
